  1. Hi guys, I thought it'd be a good idea to start a thread on news and reviews on the NX as they seem to be coming through now, especially in the states. Ill start off by saying that the NX200t and NX300h figures have been released in other parts of the world. 0-60mph are 9.2s for the 300h and 7.1s for the 200t. Power is rated at 194hp for the 300h and 235hp for the 200t. The fuel economy figures are 32mpg combined for the 300h and 24mpg for the 200t. Note that these are in US mpg on AWD vehicles so no idea how useful they are to us over here. Using a simple calculation based on the RX450h AWD which has 29mpg (US) and 44.8mpg (UK), I worked out that the NX300h should be around 49mpg and the 200t should be about 37mpg give or take here in the UK. The S models and F Sport/Premier models may differ slightly due to S models being FWD and higher spec models having wider tyres as the current generation IS. The 200t engine WILL definitely be making its way to other vehicles, mainly the IS and the GS and will replace the 2.5 litre V6. Lexus have said that the engine has been tuned to aid reliability and not power so the engine is almost certainly capable of producing more power than it currently does. Who knows, this may mean that the IS200t/GS200t may have 250hp? Here are a couple of reviews which you may wish to read: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/suvs/1407_2015_lexus_nx_200t_300h_first_drive/ http://www.bangkokpost.com/auto/autoreview/419227/nimble-lexus-nx http://www.drive.com.au/new-car-reviews/lexus-nx-first-drive-review-20140707-zsyab.html Official Lexus UK brochure: http://www.digi-flips.com/digiflips/lx/l/a6864868/digi-pdf1.pdf Please feel free to add any other reviews which you come across!

  2. So, having bought an IS200 new in 2001 and a 2 year old IS250 SE Auto with MM in 2008 (so now 8 years old) I have decided to trade in for a BMW 640d M Sport Coupe. Here are a few observations from my time with Lexus and re IS250 in particular (nothing new that hasn't been said before on this forum probably but thought would post anyway.) IS250 has been ultra reliable - few squeaks from dash and rear shelf if parked in sunlight but this settles down. Had to replace one rear brake caliper but otherwise only had to replace tyres and brake discs/pads in 6 years (though only done about 21,000 miles in this time.) Car fairly heavy on tyres and brakes but much dependent on driving style. Should mention I also needed all 4 alloys refurbing also due to corrosion (around £100 per wheel). Lexus should really have sorted out this issue which I also experienced with the IS200. Day to day, car could do with a bit more power but feels slower than it actually is as the engine is so smooth. Mark Levinson hi-fi is superb, sat nav a little frustrating as no 7 digit postcode entry and can't use it much whilst moving. Equipment levels very high and nothing has broken or stopped working. Dealer service (Edgware Road & Tunbridge Wells) very good - pricey though. I would have been happy to stay with Lexus but there is nothing in the range that appeals - new IS reviews are lukewarm to my mind, CT200 too small and ugly, RX and GS too big. (Though the 6 series isn't small...) Thought about new NX but maybe that's for the wife in a couple of years. Thought of waiting for the new coupe but it seems to be an M3 competitor and too expensive for what I need. Cooking version (if one is going to be sold) likely to be underpowered. So, thought I would go for a 2012 6 series - awesome low down power and sounds good for a diesel. Reasonable amount of kit as standard and not far off half list price for a 2 year old car with 23k on the clock (though no-one pays list for these - I have heard £17k discounts mentioned.) And road tax £145 pa which is amazing considering the performance - doubtless a "loophole" which will be closed soon.... I would recommend an IS250 to anyone who is considering one - go for the Auto and SE or SEL with multi media and full history and you won't go too far wrong. Best wishes to all on the forum.

  3. Thanks to all for the advice and suggestions on this. I decided to start with what I thought was one of the easiest and lowest risk options - a few blasts of compressed air around the switch. Rather than use my compressor at the outset, I used my foot pump with a cone-shaped piece of plastic inserted in the end (a foot pump accessory normally used, I think, for inflating air beds) to see what effect this would have - a few blasts whilst operating the switch, turned the ignition on and then tried the switch. It worked fine!! It increased the fan speed as it should and decreased it when pressed the other way. I tried it several times each way and no problem. I assume it must have been something like a bit of dust which was preventing a proper contact. Of course, I may have blown the dust elsewhere and stopped something else from working ... but hopefully not! Thanks again, all, for you help - much appreciated.

  5. No, years ago they used to be 63k when the service intervals were 9,000 miles. Most of the vehicles since 2000 have been 100,000 miles and the latest Toyota engine designs use chains rather than belts and don't need a regular change. The IS200 is an exception, there is essentially a design issue where a lot of belts were being worn down and so Lexus revised their service schedule from 100k to 60k

  6. There's a small inspection cover, on top of the engine at the front, held on by 4 bolts (allen bolts?)that you can take off to inspect the cambelt

  7. Finnish company, my mistake! Thank you for your feedback. If I do decide to get the mentioned tyres (for which I am pending), I may post a brief review here for future reference.

  8. Switch contact spray would be best, yes, but I don't think WD40 would bother the circuit board, and its more likely to be to hand?

  9. I thought that lexus/Toyota have revised the cambelt change to 60k or 6years ??? Allan

  10. cambelt is every 100,000 miles. Not sure Lexus place a time limit in the UK but in some countries it will be 100,000 miles or 10/12 years. If you don't want to get it done unless necessary then at least inspect it for any cracking / wear. A Nav update still won't get you full postcode destination. Depending on age you may not be able to enter a destination whilst the vehicle is in motion, an update may remove that restriction. If you are happy with the TomTom then don't bother with an update. As others have stated if the cloudiness is on the outside then it can be polished out easily. If it is on the inside then you have to remove and bake the units in the oven so the lens can be separated so you can clean the inside.

  11. Welcome to LOC, always good advice here ....1.The toothpaste trick works if the lens is yellowed on the outside, i've done it myself, 2..change the cam belt the recommended is 60k or 5-6 years whichever is soonest, 3... worth dismantling the aerial to try and fix, 4 stick to your tom tom for navigation and save money...... 12. On a car of that age I'd replace the cambelt even if it only had 10,000 miles. Rubber isn't designed to last for that long!

  13. Sadly it means you've missed the ad I put online offering a free holiday on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, but only for people who's name begins with "H"

  14. Use the handbrake - that's what it's there for. P155es me off sat behind some clown for ages while his brakelights dazle through the rain and destroy my retinas....
