  1. 1) If members can't make a serious point without being aggressive and antagonistic they're best ignored. That kind of attention-seeking says much more about them than it does about the issue itself. So Suman, good luck with your claim, and ignore members who are unsympathetic and/or downright rude. They're not the reason why the rest of us belong to this Forum. 2) A long time ago I handled third-party motor claims for a big insurer, and although a lot has changed in the car insurance business since then, I imagine that the principles of dealing with claims are similar. Needless to say, my company wanted to minimise their payouts as much as possible, but there was a general sense that they gave people the benefit of the doubt rather than finding any excuse to wriggle out of paying, like some of the old Lloyds companies did in those days. Nevertheless, the basis on which we negotiated claims was that the third party is always under a common law duty to minimise their claim. For example, if someone was having their Escort repaired and hired a Granada to get them around, they'd be paid only the cost of hiring an Escort or smaller car - on the basis that they only needed to get to work (or whatever), not be paid to drive around in more style than they were used to. What's more, a mileage charge would be deducted to cover the wear and tear that their own car wasn't clocking up while it was off the road. The point is that no one is supposed to benefit - make a profit - from claiming. This discourages fraudulent claims. The situation is simpler now that repairers supply loan vehicles, but Suman's claim will still be gone through with a fine toothcomb. I think the minibus insurers will argue that they won't pay for a Lexus loan vehicle if he can get in and out of a cheaper alternative. It's only his basic mobility that they'll be concerned with. Equally, I doubt they'll negotiate much over the value of his car, and probably won't pay for anything else except his injury claim. Insurers are wise to false whiplash claims these days and are very suspicious of rear-end impact histories, but if Suman has records of being taken to hospital he should be okay. In general (I think), they'll only pay for things that can be quantified, which is why they probably won't offer more than a token £50 for distress or anxiety etc. resulting from the accident. And this might be only because he hasn't insisted on claiming for other things. I don't want to sound negative or discouraging, but the fact is that we're not legally entitled to much compensation for the annoyance and inconvenience and distress of being involved in an accident like Suman's. And although the market value of our cars is much less than they're worth to us, insurers will argue that it's the only 'official' guide to what they're legally required to pay out. But maybe there are other members who have more up-to-date experience of how claims are handled?

  2. This has been discussed in another thread - how much success selling on LOC?, but I thought it appropriate to open this out for others, should they wish to comment. In my view, advertising on the forum should be free of charge. There are enough people including main dealers, insurance companies, Ebay, autotrader etc trying to get their hands in our pockets without being charged on our own forum. BMW, Jaguar, Audi forums et al do not charge to advertise, are they looking after their members better? A forum should be run be enthusiasts, for enthusiasts. In practical and economic terms, charging to advertise also makes no sense. How much revenue does it bring in? The last car advertised on LOC was in February of this year. The posts in the for sale section do not even appear as they have all timed out, they are so old. i never even look on there to see what is available. If advertising is free it would result in less moderation as fewer "inferior non Gold members" would have the gall to mention that they have a car for sale in the wrong forum. A lot more ads would definitely appear in the for sale section, for cars and parts, this would stimulate a lot more interest, a lot more traffic from external visitors. It is simple commercial sense, and would provide a useful resource for those who participate in the forum. It would increase the likelihood that cars are passed from one genuine enthusiast to another, would make parts much easier to find, keeping some cars on the road and out of the scrapyard or banger racing track. It would also reduce friction on the forums and the apparent sense of superiority felt by some Gold members (and tempting as it is, that is not a euphemism). For those who want to pay a membership fee, having worked out cost vs benefit, that is fine. I do not use theme parks, and for me, it is not worth it.

  4. Was lucky yesterday, both cars did the hill climb. RC F sounded brilliant. If that Q50 ever go's into production, could be very tempting.

  5. You have to remember the other forums you have mentioned have FAR more people on them and can generate money via other means. The lexus forum doesn't have that ability.

  6. Makes sense. 5 squids for listing seems reasonable and is cheaper than pistonheads, eBay, autotrader etc. Also agree there is no need to scrap gold membership as it clearly benefits some members.

  7. agreed. it does make sense and would drive more traffic to the website for existing LOC members and non members who are looking to make a purchase since they will need to sign up as members first in order to make a purchase or communicate with other members which in turn will bring in new members to the forumn. I have also had a glance through the for sale section and there is nothing going on there as Hugh confirmed. I know Hugh said it should be free but web space costs money so infact instaed of having to be a gold member in order to sell on LOC why dont they introduce a flat rate fee say £5 fee for 30 day ad space regardless of its the item being sold is a car or part. pay a 5iver advertise for 30 days with option of keeping it rolling the next month if the 30days runs out without the item / car selling. question is how many of us use the Lexus dealership where we could save the 25% off servicing parts and labour the gold membership offers? best way to find out is for mods to carry out a yes or no survey asking members this question and i can bet only a fare few actually do. my suggestion is not to scrap the gold membership but keep it for those who use the Lexus dealerships often where they will benefit from the 25% off offers and keep the for sale section open to all members to trade for a 30 day advertising space for £5. worth trialing this for a couple of months and see how much revenue it will generate for the site compared to the current gold membership solution. my 2 cents

  8. That's all well and good. Members can work out whether it is worth it for them. In my view, advertising on the forum should be free of charge. I may start a new thread on this, to open it out for discussion, as I am slightly off topic here.

  9. Lot of pettiness creeping into this forum in my humble opinion. Personally, I don't understand why it is necessary to pay to become a member, in order to advertise a car. I haven't been on every other car forum, by any means, but I'm not aware of any other forum on which you have to pay to advertise. I believe that BMW, Jaguar and Audi forums are free. Any forum should be for the benefit of all, and run by enthusiasts. This is why cars are almost never advertised on our forum. I believe the last was in February of this year and a quick look just revealed no posts, as they are so old they do not show up. I am considering changing my LS400 (no details, this is not an ad) and there are plenty of places I can legitimately advertise. The policy of having to pay just demonstrates a stingy, non inclusive attitude, in my view, which serves only to reduce the amount of traffic, and of people who will even take an interest in Lexus and look in from time to time. Who will bother on the off chance of a car coming up for three or four months? I never look to see what's available. No wonder people surreptitiously drop hints on other threads, I don't blame them.

  11. Hi all, Im awaiting my new Is 300 h f-sport in white. Should have it July 20th. It will be my fourth lexus so im pretty excited about getting it. Ive stopped reading expert reviews as they are dissing the car big time on the performance. On reading the previous posts on MPG im kinda bewildered as to why lexus are claiming my new car will do 60 + MPG. Clearly new owners here are achieving far less. Has anyone an opinion on this .

  12. Lets get this straight. A forum member has an accident that they are not to blame for, the culprit even drove off without any information exchange, the driver suffer's injury and rightly get's medical treatment, then looks to put in a claim to get the car repaired to it's former glory and compensation for the whole incident. Since then, it has changed to a personal dig at the driver and the disabled, claims of false whiplash, benefit scrounging, slanging matches between members. Come on people, we are supposed to be a discerning group of people that own a slice of luxury motoring. I fear we are starting to see people's TRUE COLOURS coming out, what's next i wonder. If you have an issue with the original poster then PM them, please don't reduce this forum to the crap that is acceptable on lesser forums. Please think before you post, both as the post starter and any replies. Personally i think the claim amounts are a bit high, you will be hard pushed to get close, but good luck getting your car sorted, and good luck on getting your injury healed.

  13. I'd say claying is your best option as you don't as such get the abrasive factor as you would with most other products p.s. edited the title for you :winky:
