  3. Just tested my ls430 53 plate, I can guarentee mine has just unlocked and the windows opened plus sunroof with a 5 second press and hold on the open button on the fob. It also closed all windows and sunroof and locked the car with a 5 second press and hold on the fob. You can open close the windows partially by letting go when the windows are moving, or just keep pressing and they will fully shut or open depending on which button you using. Did it 3 times in a row to ensure that luck or fairies were getting involved. Mine is a Europe model, so i guessing all 430's should have this feature. More than 50 feet away it just unlocks and locks, no window movement.

  4. I guess about a 2, but depends on experience - brake jobs need care and knowledge! But if the no 2 slide pin is seriously seized, you're way up the scale. It can need a new caliper in the worst case. If you can get the caliper off the pin, you can clean the pin and the recess and lube as discussed. Should a new caliper be needed, check prices with your Lexus dealer - there are special offers on them! Now we're all waiting with bated breath.......!

  5. Yeah, I used it on the sliding pins, the clips that the pads slide on, on the inside of the shims and a slight dab around the piston inside the caliper. You will spend most of your time jacking the car up, removing the caliper and carrier, trying to break free any seized components and removing rust (hope not!!). The lubing only take a minute so I would say it's probably a 1. :)

  7. I think the OEM grease from Lexus is not up for the job either based on how the calipers still keep seizing even after alleged improvements in design. I would recommend using something like the Pagid/Mintex Ceratec which, if you read up on it is an entirely different approach to lubricant for brakes. It's more of a gel than a grease. I used it when I serviced my brakes last year and no problems so far.

  12. Economy - I've got up to 50mpg in mine, which I'm very happy with. Yep, it's less than the 60mpg quoted but I don't think you'll ever see close to the quoted figure in any car. It's too much a controlled conditions test. It's a test that gets consistent numbers between different manufacturers cars but it also sees silly results like the 100mpg+ figures that are quoted for plug in hybrids. What I'm really happy about is that I'm losing much less against the quote than with the CT I had before. My sig has the Fuelly link to my IS and this link will take you to the numbers I was getting on the CT : http://www.fuelly.com/car/lexus/ct200h/2011/Sleepypete/91945 CT - quoted 69mpg, achieved 48 average, although I was seeing minor improvements in that to a consistent low 50s after I stopped bothering updating Fuelly. IS - quoted 60mpg, achieving 46 average and improving with every fill up. My current tank is reading 53.5 on the computer which will turn into perhaps 49 at the pump. So that extra performance in the IS gives extra flexibility which helps out the mpg. Performance ? It's a 220bhp car with double the torque that you'd expect. I rarely drive in Sport now (don't have to !) and I drive in Eco in town to tame some of the drive-by-wire responses (the brake can be a little choppy in mine at low speed). Off the line, you have to be careful following people because of our CVT gearbox, our car continues to gather speed while they're changing gear. That CVT gearbox is worth a mention actually. The CT felt quicker than the 10sec to 60 car it was. It felt as quick as my Puma (9sec) and almost as quick as my Focus ST170 (7.5). The reason is that the CVT gearbox lets the car give you everything it's got, every time you ask it to. There does seem to be a little bit of motor lag in Normal that goes away in Sport. The IS has enough power to make pretty much anything go Bye-Bye behind you at the lights, plus it has a chassis which just eats sharp corners for breakfast. Happy IS300h owner here - it does that magic combination of handling, power and economy :hocus-pokus:

  13. I spent my youth successfully getting from A to B in a variety of reliable sheds. Sheds are good. Our Lexus wasnt bought as a shed and I dont want to allow it to become one. I am fast coming to the conclusion that it would be more economical to buy a shed specifically as a shopping tool.

  14. Found this http://blog.lexus.co.uk/2013/08/how-does-lexus-hybrid-drive-work/#.U5yc5Sg63eA Very interesting read Tells you how the petrol engine is used to power the batteries when they are needed to be charged up Also tells you how when going down hill how the electric motors kick in in reverse to gain some charge from the wasted energy there too All of this in my opinion just adds friction to the running gear and would be like driving a car around town with 2 clicks on the handbrake and 5 bags of cement in the boot. Also read this for a bit of information on the REAL LIFE MPG figures http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-reviews/38182/lexus-ls600h-l It states that around town you will get no where near the stated 30.4mpg more like 20mpg (which is what my LS400 gets) Basically from reading all of this I have come to the conclusion that it is a lot of car (very nice car) but there are nicer cheaper things out there
