  1. Hello everyone, Thought i'd introduce myself. I work for a Lexus dealer, but won't bother going into too much detail for the sake of keeping it simple. I'll do my best to help anyone on here with any questions or issues when possible. I hope you don't mind - but i'll also try to correct anything I see that is blatantly wrong!! In a friendly way, of course I look forward to discussing all things Lexus with you... All the best.

  3. Mark, if he was a dealer then he is still responsible notwithstanding his statement that it was sold as seen.. If however you do not wish to pursue that line then do enjoy your car when fixed as it is sublime motoring and will give you endless joy whenever you look at/ drive it. It is simply " one of the best seats in the house". Regards John

  4. Hello iRobot . I agree with the advice that you should go through insurance. You imply that it was your fault, so just accept the consequences and let the insurance company sort it out for you. They will recommend the outfit to repair your vehicle and arrange for a replacement vehicle for you pending completion of repairs (assuming that your policy provides for this). Just sit back, relax and try not to hit anybody from behind again.....we have all been where you are now. Good luck. Regards John

  6. I have an inky 2002 Lexus is200 with 152000 miles which is slightly rough around the edges but drives very tight and honest, it's great fun and handles abuse well! I also have an immaculate 04 is200 sport in a very rare blue colour which Im very fond off. I have never seen another one on the roads at all! It has 61000 miles and is the tidiest car I have ever owned. Would love to fit a trd kit and possibly lower slightly 40mm at the very most and maybe upgrade the CD player to a dvd/iPod player. Don't want to mess with originality too much!

  7. Wow - what a difference in braking! Just got the car back from my mechanic who changed front and rear discs and pads. Nobody should drive with the amount of play I found on the car when I got it. Reasons I'm told were that at least one front Caliper had pistons somewhat stiff to move, almost seized, and one Slider pin could not easily be removed. OK pads were worn but now the car bites as soon as I touch the pedal. I've still to replace the front slider pins and rubber bushings as in poor condition and one bushing disintegrated applying heat to remove the slider pin as locked tight with rust. The support "A" springs also poor condiition and need replacing but the job of replacement can now wait. Pricewise I find its going to be cheaper to buy from the States these various parts and if a previous owner had not chopped off the Wear Sensors connectors I'd have bought four at just £3.82 each! Possibly a bargain, but you do get what you pay for, and there is always the cost of shipment. Parts costs have quite a range of prices I find.

  8. Usually the gas tank takes the space where your full size spare wheel is stored, so you can say goodbye to that as well........but you can always use a can of compressed gunge instead There are many pros and cons for each.......I never understand the "it'll enhance the resale value"......its bad enough to sell a car without a full service history let alone one that has had major engine modifications made to it, albeit to aid economy. I can see a dyed in the wool LPG convert buying a used LPG car but most normal buyers would run a mile I reckon.

  9. The cambelt change on the Ls430 is 100k miles ?? and is maybe just a tad overdue but nonetheless expensive service item ............. hence no service I guess for 20k miles ? ......... not brilliantly looked after then if that's the case. Nonetheless, it might be a fine car !!! But if the seller isn't totally upfront about stuff then maybe it really is one to shy away from ........... the dealer anyway ! Malc

  10. Im looking for a dark colour (either black or dark blue) so I havent been to see this one. But personally I would be wary of buying a 'cheap' LS and go for a clean car and one thats been looked after. The cars which are below market value especially from a dealer are usally cheap for a good reason.

  11. I found Watling very helpful too. Before buying a car with one of their towbars fitted, I contacted them to ask for a fitting diagram showing where the mounting points were, as I was thinking of fitting a towbar to my lpg LS400. They emailed one by return and dealt quickly with a couple of follow up queries I had. I did not go down this route in the end, as having another LS400 with a towbar already fitted seemed a better option. Why have only one LS400 if the opportunity is there to have two?!!

  12. I took your advice on this and the car just passed its MOT with an advisory for two shocks showing only light misting. I'll probably need to get them replace before the next MOT so if anyone does manage to find an alternative soirce I'd be interested to know. Tonyricha - of course I know that owning a premium brand car means higher bills, but it doesn't mean I shouldn't try and source the parts elsewhere for a lower price as we all know that dealers are not always the best option.

  13. Would a clutch and flywheel not cost considerably more than £700 to replace? I would have guessed at closer to £1500 at a dealer.

  14. I'd say more like 30k and it'll pay for itself, that's how it worked out for me anyroad.
