  1. Hello guys, I had the nearside bearing replaced on my MK IV a few weeks ago. From Lexus the bearing was almost £300 but I got a genuine Toyota part from cheaptoyotaparts.co.uk for £129 inc VAT. The inner and outer oil seals from Lexus added up to well over £100 but from cheaptoyotaparts they cost £72 inc VAT (again, genuine parts), I also got a hub nut which cost £3.20. I dealt with Chris Billimore and he was extremely helpful in discussing options on how to save me money when buying parts from him. I would recommend you give his website a look if you need parts for your Lexus, you will have to email him through the site as it doesn't list many Lexus parts but he can get them all. I hope this helps. Steve.

  2. To keep a good car in good paint condition then you really need to go down the clay bar route. Yes it can take a while, especially on a big lexus. Yes it can also make you arms and back hurt with the effort. But when you have finished and put a good wax over the top, you will not believe how smooth the paintwork feels. And getting those bits of crud off the paint that washing misses will make the paint last longer and look better. Took me best part of 6hrs last time i washed, clayed and waxed my old girl, another 7hrs for the car after that I hope sue don't read this, or i may have a pair of black eyes at our next meet

  3. If its a really nice original car [which its difficult to tell from the 'photos on eBay] I think its probably worth it. I've restored and refurbished many cars over the years and in my experience its very difficult to turn an average car into a nice one - I've learnt from bitter [i.e. expensive] experience its far better to buy the best you can than spend money on a less good one. Just my view for what its worth.

  4. Yes mate. I'll need it back as quick as possible, only my 6yr/60k service at Lexus Woodford is due next Monday, and I've barely got the cash together to pay for it. Fine for a bit though chap. :)

  6. I am planning on keeping mine at least another 5 years, it is a 54 plate with only 63k and I do about 5k a year. The cost of fuel is only relative. Some people are happy paying £8.50 a day for a packet of cigarettes and others think nothing of spending £50 for a night out, so compared to the enjoyment I get driving my Lexus, 25 to the gallon is cheap!

  7. interesting - I was shot down in flames at the dealer when I said I didn't like it! They looked at me as if I had cotton wool in my ears. The std audio, gives up a bit of clarity at high volume, for more middle and bass. Functionality wise it is identical. You still get the surround dsp, DVD functions, same options on bass/middle/treble etc. The ML bit is the speakers and amp. I preferred the sound from the standard system and when I saw you lost no functionality that was decision made. I believe the std audio setup is built by Pioneer.

  8. Wicksy - Mr Muscle Window and Glass cleaner - that green one....works brilliantly! I believe it's alkaline. Used this for years and it works brilliants. Cleans well and doesn't leave any residue behind at all.

  9. The Control valve mentioned on the invoice is probably the Idle Up Valve fitted on the PS pump which increases power steering effort when the car is idling ( moving out of a parking space for example). This valve tends to leak and causes PS fluid to be sucked into the intake manifold where it gets burnt in the engine producing white smoke. Most owners remove the valve and blank this and the pipes off with no apparent difference in the steering feel.
