  1. Since hearing of reports of the dashboard material not taking too kindly to cleaners, I was wondering if anyone is using anything that keeps the dash looking good and doesn't dull or stain - my dealer told me to just keep on using a damp microfibre cloth but I think it needs a little more than that to keep it looking good. I have been thinking about giving Autoglym Resin interior cleaner a go but am a bit worried in case I do damage :eerrrmm:

  2. I concur with all that Richard posts above. I live at the top of a hill and no matter how light footed or how much juice there is in the battery I cannot get to the top without the engine cutting in to help. The energy monitor definitely assists in training for economical driving, prior to getting this car I really couldn't have cared less about mpg - when the car needed petrol I put some in. Now I've always got half an eye on the mpg, it's not from a financial perspective, although obviously pretty much halving my petrol bill is welcome, it's from the satisfaction of knowing I'm gliding around using electricity. I've had the car since 1st Sept and would have thought this would have worn off by now, but it hasn't so far.

  3. The transmission cooler on the series II is behind the front bumper and below the radiator,if you look at the picture it is the pipe running across with the round cooling fins on it.

  4. If you manage to spend £1000 on the car I'll be amazed, most costs are for little money and you will probably have a great car for the future ... the ATF radiator issue seemingly only manifests itself on the Ls430 ........... never on the Ls400. I know no more than that .. I'm not a techy, just know that from 12 years of owning a Mk1, Mk2 and now my Mk3, I have enjoyed blissful and economic motoring for a very long time. I have not long returned from a 5 week, 6060 mile trip thru France and around Spain and Portugal and back in mine, fantastic trouble free too .............. this past week, at 160k miles, I have a power steering fluid leak and keeping my fingers crossed that its nothing too serious and my mechanic can fix it ok. For at least another trouble free year of blissful journeying Enjoy your car. Malc

  5. I did this with a scubby legacy ? Bought it for bad weather and lugging stuff around, did not go see the car , still buying bits , I might get it going by 2015. The joys

  6. AC air flow, there is an open vent mounted on the panel below the steering colunm shroud, turn it to redirect or shut off the airflow. Regarding the climate control LCD the price comes down to demand, far more LHD LS400s were sold than RHD models and with the dwindling number of 1993-1994 models left on the road no one is going to mass produce a cheap LCD they may never sell. Believe it or not there is no specified cambelt replacement mieage/time, all the owner's manual mentions is that it is checked during routine servicing however it is prudent to replace for peace of mind at 60,000/6 year intervals. Regarding the flat battery was it fully charged initially? You say it has only been driven for 60 miles since you bought it so it may not have been fully charged to begin with. Again there is a section in the owners manual which recommends turning off the remote locking/unlocking system and using the key when leaving the vehicle for extended periods of time to reduce battery drainage.

  7. You've bought a 21 year old car with no previous recent history then !!!! not sure what you really expected. Perhaps a starting point is to check with the DVLA the previous recent MOT advisories ( you can do that on-line ) and then do these service items ( as you say, that's all they are ! ) and think that you will maybe have many many years of trouble free motoring and perhaps even an appreciating ( in value ) classic. If the cambelt was changed in 2003 ish then you may have a sticker somewhere in the engine bay to tell you and then have at least a little comfort from that. It should have really had its second one about now. 114k is no miles on your car, the pas leak has been fixed ? usually drips onto the alternator from the reservoir and knocks that out .............. but maybe it's been saved ! The radiator is stand alone from ATF fluids passing thu' too. So how much did you pay for your wonderful piece of classic engineering ?? Bet it was a bargain, hope so, give's you leeway to get it "right " and enjoy for the future. Which of course you will once the initial expense has been overcome. Enjoy your Ls400 ....... and prepare to buy your next one; once smitten you will never look back and wonder why you didn't start your love affair with Ls400s a long time ago. Malc

  8. Thanks guys. :) Think it's just drivers wing and the front bumper that will need painting. There's a crease in the wing unfortunately. :( They were really upset bless them. Older couple as well. :( Dread to think what Saga will charge them after they pay the bill! I'm just glad no one was hurt. Cars can be repaired or replaced, people can't.

  9. Sorry, it wasn't meant to come across as being aggressive. The 11 model year I have does have a harsh ride and do agree with on that score. If 14 model year has corrected this, then I may have to look at one next year. It is a great car other than mpg for some plus minor design flaws which are almost unnoticeable after owning for a couple of months.

  10. Thanks Steve. I pulled up at the dealer, and saw my baby outside the front door glistening in the sunshine. Parked my IS 250 SE-L, one last check inside and a final look around. I really just hope she goes to a good home. Said my final farewell, then headed over to the new one. Had a look round, beautifully prepared as I expected from Lexus. There were a few new cars being handed over alongside mine and I knew I had chosen the right colour for me. Chris, the salesman, greeted me and went to complete the paperwork. Keys exchanged, tax disc removed and vehicle registration document signed over. How simple things are! Time to get in the new car for Chris to run through things. Everything covered, seat adjusted and memory set, Chris wished me many happy motoring miles and left me to it. First thing I did was to take a pic of the dash at 3 miles! All set, off I went. It's only about 5 miles home, 3 on the A1 in slow traffic. How smug I felt moving along slowly not using fuel. Made it home as I needed to fit the kids seats back in the car so I can get them from nursery. Took the following pics on the driveway. Kids picked up and home, car then packed to head to the in-laws as I was booked on a Nissan GTR experience at Donington. Nice gentle drive up the M1. Upon arrival, averaged 45mpg. So, what do I think so far? It's a firmer (which I don't mind) ride than the SE-L. Definitely more lower end torque due to the motor. Still a lot of things to figure out on the car. Bluetooth to my Sony Z2 works great. Contacts transferred ok. Music plays from it. Controls from the steering wheel work with it. Just getting the hang of the satnav, much slower input than the previous touch screen. Oh, and it certainly draws attention! My first project will be to install my aftermarket media headrests for the kids. Will post more feedback when I get more miles done. Lee.

  11. 45 minutes from your nearest Lexus dealer, that's a total of 90 minutes pure driving pleasure getting there and back :)
