  1. Hello folks! I'm new around here. Got an '05 Lexus IS200 SE 6 speed manual with every available factory option installed. Only covered 50k miles. Had no faults back when I bought it and was inspected by an AA engineer upon purchasing. No service history, but it didn't put me off. Had some small scratches around the car that will be polished off without a problem. This Lexus was supposed to be my weekend ride since I already had an '06 Volvo S40 1.6 S. Therefore, my Lexus was garaged without use for a year; I had no time what so ever to do anything to this baby. Three weeks ago, my daily car reached 90k and I thought it was about time to sell it. Slowly started to work on the Lexus by buying it a new battery and starting it for the first time in a year; started from the first time without a problem. Booked it for an MOT and sold my Volvo. It failed on front O/S driver side brakes, needs new caliper, disc and pads. Kwik-Fit quoted me £420 with the MOT. I thought, forget that, so bought 2x front Mintex discs and pads for £72. Going to fit it next week along with a caliper, decided to buy 1x since the other one is mint. Been driving it from home to the MOT centre, forgot how amazing the 6 cylinder sounds! Other than the brakes, the car is spot on. Due to not having any service history, I think it's best for me to change the timing belt and water pump; along with a full service history, new plugs. Anything else to watch out for? Thanks in advance.

  3. Well after owning my ls430 for about a month and loving the smooth gliding ride I decided to have a play with the sport and power settings I was curious as to how much the ride quality may be compromised I don't know what the rest of you guys have found but in my opinion the amazing comfort has not diminished in any noticeable way by adjusting the suspension the car just feels more tight and poised As for the power button well that is noticeable She definitely picks up faster and there is more sense of urgency getting down the road I'm so impressed with this car so far - just keeps getting better and putting a big smile on my face

  5. Thanks Colin, Tried that and it doesn't work. However, I did find out how to do it - keep INFO button pressed and turn lights switch from off to side light x3 and it just pops up on the screen! Had a look on the menu and nothing here to mess about with (nothing I would feel confident changing anyway!)

  6. Smart repair as mentioned is the way to go,by the time you have bought paint, primer and filler you will be halfway there in cost to having it done professionally plus the work is guaranteed and will be a perfect colour match.

  10. I agree. At least the road tax is down to choice and ability to pay. Any country that provides health care based on the ability to pay cannot call itself civilised. Cameron take note

  12. Really depends on how much you want to spend, a smart repair by a professional will look good and cost you around the £100 mark, if you do it your self your need the paint code, normally its on a plate just inside the drivers door.

  13. Roads in UK a disgrace And we pay £500 a year in road tax for the privilege Don't get me wrong, I knew the tax band and accept that if i want to enjoy these beautiful cars that's one of the prices to be paid But at least repair the bloody roads for all my tax Especially when you factor in how much tax we pay here every time we fill up!!!

  14. I know absolutely nothing about the workings of DAB. Cotswold Pete and Cleverdick may as well be talking in a foreign language. What I do know is that I've had DAB fitted in my last 2 cars by JustConnect and the quality and reception on TalkSport, 5Live and quite a few others is brilliant.

  15. I do believe you can get into the lense area on the Headlamp from the back ,they are not sealed beams as you can change the bulbs. The quickest way to disperse the condensation would be to remove the bulbs and play hot air into the unit through the bulb holder spaces using a hair dryer on low heat. There are some snorkels on the side of the unit they are there to vent the enclosure check they are clear with a bit of wire.

  16. Mk4 2000. BOTH mirrors dip when car is put into reverse. Discovered that each sun visor can be ELONGATED about 4 to 5 inches along its rail and when moved 90 degrees will cover the driver's/passenger's side windows. The plastic hide-away box under the passenger seat is there to contain the First-aid box.

  17. OK, time for an update as I just got the car back today. The workshop who did the work are old school and know what they are doing and do not charge extortionate hourly rates. They ordered the rad on Monday afternoon and when it came on Tuesday it wasn't quite the same one, it had no pipe coming out of the top of the rad on the passenger side, apparently this goes to an expansion tank. This was in spite of my old rad being a Toyota one with the part number on the top. After ringing around and finding the rad in stock but not with the top pipe my mechanics eventually found the right one so now I am up and running. The final cost was £300 but that's what you get when something goes wrong with an LS, apparently main dealer cost is £311 just for the Rad, presumably plus VAT. All I will say is if you are in the same position make sure you get the correct Rad, cos even after giving the part number on top of my old rad, it still wasn't exactly 100%. My missus has a card displayed, it says,"If it has Tyres or Bollocks then you will have trouble with it" :-)
