  2. Sorry Rudy, was unable to convince my girlfriends older sister to travel, I did tell her you were rich but I think your photo let you down. Presently on ferry to holly head with fred81s car, so like the cat said when a train ran over its tail. It won't be long now.

  3. Apparently, having spoken to the dealer again tonight, private customers like me get a full tank of fuel but fleet drivers are more likely to get a quarter to a half. I got a surprise gift from them tonight......being an avid cufflink collector/wearer they surprised me with a beautiful set of "Cross" Lexus cufflinks!

  4. Hi john I read all the reviews before I took the plunge! I have always had bmw before but needed a change and I am very happy that I did! diesels need more attention we all know that you hear of EGR and. Dpf problems but all diesels have this problem be it BMW or LEXUS! I'm not the biggest diesel fan but if you get a well looked after one that has full lexus history it should look after you. MPG is a saw subject with a lot of 220 owners it is a heavy car so if you push it it will drink the fuel. I get an average of about 500 to 550 miles on a tank at £70. I'm happy!

  5. I had to stop and re-read your original post and realised you are using a 64gb usb disk - windows is now too clever and only gives you an option of exFAT or NTFS with this size of USB disk in Disk Manager. :megaangry: You will need to resort to DOS commands, or a 3rd party application to format it as FAT32, or get a 32gb or smaller thumb drive. FAT32 is the only format that the Lexus will recognize. Google - 64gb USB FAT32 format - there are many options open to you.

  7. A Maserati 4200 Cambrio Corsa with a flappy paddle shift that needs a new clutch every 20,000 at £1500.00 miles is expensive! :)

  8. Amazing toys aren't they! One push of a switch and the suspension stiffens up and the revs run higher before the transmission changes up. Have you discovered the storage box yet under the passenger seat?

  9. When I had my 1994 LS 400: Very poor airflow from the aircond/climate control system. Fan works OK, suspect blocked filter behind glove box (for those of you who don't know where it is, there are removal instructions and pics in the Owners Manual). Remove filter, it looks pretty clean. Notice what looks like a twig poking down from ducting above where I've removed the filter. Put fingers into ducting and pull out twig........big mistake. Lots of crud falls out and into the, now unprotected, air con inlet. It took me a LONG time to dismantle various bits a pieces and get rid of all the crud. I shouldn't have been surprised at the crud, the car was, at least, 10 years old. So, every year after that, I did the following: Remove filter Place cloth over air con inlet Poke around in upper ducting with a bent wire to remove all crud. Clean filter by blowing through with air line (don't hold the line too close or you'll blow a hole in the filter). Blow from both sides. Wear goggles because the dust goes everywhere. Remove cloth and crud and, immediately, replace filter. You'll be amazed how much the airflow is improved.

  12. That's a shame. Dealers should be striving to deliver exceptional customer service if they wants us to part with our cash. I'm sure you will find another soon but worth a look anyway! :) I actually find buying cars quite stressful to be honest from a logistical point of view. I love the actual driving away in the new car bit it's just the bit before I don't like!

  13. How/where were they seeing bubbling in the brake fluid? The master cyclinder is combined with a hydraulic brake booster. In pre-2000 cars, these were prone to failure (indicated by a constant buzzer sound), but not heard of a failure on later models and your 2001 model should have the larger uprated version of the booster. The other stuff is quite common on older Lexus' in general, not just the GS. Seized calipers and/or slide pins is very common.

  14. I've had my LS400 insured through Adrian Flux for 5 years now as their price was always the lowest. My insurance is due for renewal next week and the premiums have gone up from £320 last year to £355 this year, so I had a look on the comparison websites and found that More Than would insure me for £206-quite a difference!! When I looked at my renewal from Adrian Flux I noticed that my no claims bonus was showing as NIL?? I phoned Adrian Flux to point out their error as showing my no claims bonus as NIL when I had been insured for 5 years with the Lexus and assumed my insurance would decrease significantly but was told that I was insured on a Classic policy and you do not earn ANY bonus on this type of policy!! So had I been on a normal policy for the last 5 years I would now be paying much less for insurance and more annoying is that if/when I sell the Lexus and change to a more modern car I will have ZERO bonus and it will then take me a few years to build up a bonus again. I tried getting quotes from other companies with NIL bonus and was told I am now considered as a much higher risk because I have no earned bonus and even though I have been insured and driving the Lexus for 5 years this is basically ignored!! My quote from More Than was inaccurate because I said I had 5 years bonus whereas I actually have NIL bonus. While I have had cheaper insurance over the last couple of years I will be paying for it when I do change cars. I was totally unaware that I was on a classic policy as it doesn't actually say anywhere that it is not a standard policy. So if you do think about insuring on a classic policy bear in mind you will lose any no claims bonus and will end up out of pocket later on!!
