  1. I have only had a Mk1 and a Mk2 and now my Mk3 Ls400s and they have all been exceptionally GREAT cars to own and to drive. Superb quality and build and longevity and reliability too. Residual values from the point at which I bought them lost me bugger all in cash terms, and repair bills and servicing running costs have all been quite miniscule ....... over probably 200,000 miles all told. AND I have had experience of lots of other " prestige " cars too, when I was the co-owner of a car sales business, dealing in all marques from lowly Fords to RRs, Bentleys, Jags, BMWs and most others too. The Ls400s I have owned have surpassed all, in all criteria, even fuel consumption in many cases too. Putting this down to Lexus Quality Control in the manufacture and design of earller Ls400s is probably the key. Well done Lexus, maybe not quite so tho' these days from all I read !! Malc

  2. Yes but the job is not for the average DIY solderer. The printed circuit board for the ECU is "multilayer" and therefore has the tracks on both sides of the PCB. Removing the old capacitors is fairly straightforward but clearing the holes to fit new ones is a delicate job to avoid damaging the solder pads. I have found a UK source of all but one of the recommended specification replacement capacitors with the other due in early May so I will then order them and make up the kits.

  5. Car passed its MOT on Friday with no advisories so I am very happy with that due to the amount of work I have done on it. I have fitted the auto wing mirror closure this morning - took an hour and a half but well worth it.

  6. Well guys seems I will be keeping the Ls 430, as The Ls 400 with the DHP has been acquired by a forum member. I had some communication with others but the lucky one is FRED81. I am happy to keep the 430 but would have been equally as happy with the 400. I expect he will be reporting on his new purchase soon. I am delivering it early this week. bilmac

  8. Ruud, I wasn't being pedantic - honestly........I just remember that my particular LS 400 had the 62,000 interval. I'm sure, however, that there are many 400's driving around with VERY old belts. As a matter of interest, the website which I pasted is part of a larger site which gives free downloads of all Lexus documentation. If it's not already in the archives, it might be of help to other members: https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/info/my-lexus/resources/owners-manual-search.do

  9. As above. Under the SOGA it is up to the dealer to prove the car was fit for purpose at the time of sale not for you to prove it wasn't. Quote from AA website. "The dealer is liable for faults with the vehicle - that mean it was not of satisfactory quality - that were present at the time it was sold even though they may only become apparent later on." I doubt the dealer would be able to prove the defect was NOT present when you bought the car. You could also argue that with a car of this quality it is unacceptable to expect a shock absorber to fail after only 5 years.

  10. Hi ChrisI can answer your question why, in one word, for me anyway, age. When you get older getting in and out of a car, I can assure you, is a big issue. Not bhp, not off road just getting and in and out. It comes to everyone eventually believe me. I have had an IS200, 3 x IS250, all great cars and my IS300h is amazing, but getting in and out becomes a problem to us all. Exactly that, I had to sell my lovely CLS as my wifes illness affects her mobility, a 4x4/crossover is about the only vehicle (apart from large 7 seat MPVs) that give the ease of ingress/egress, that is our priority nowadays....along with seat and ride comfort.

  13. I really do not get all this concern about bhp etc etc, it's a luxury lexus which 99% of the time gets driven sedately or am I the only one??. The next thing will be is comments about "it's not going to be very good off road"? Being on the pavement is the nearest thing most 4x4's do!!!
