  1. First thing you do is push and pull every switch & button you can find, and i will tell you there are lots of em. Give the car a thorough looking over, and under, in the wheel wells, under the hood, remove the boot spare wheel cover and have a good look around there, whilst you are there, look either side of the boot, satnav on the right, fuse box on the left, check for rust, fluid or anything that looks out of place. Test drive it, does it pull to any side, gear changes should be smooth and almost not noticable, steering should be smooth and precise, they do handle quite well for a yacht with wheels, does it pull under braking, any rattles or knocking. If you can, take another lexus owner along with you for a second set of eyes.

  2. Bit late entering this i know but here's my bit for what it's worth. I don't think we should ban lexuschap/adam from the forum, if this forum is making comments in regard to car trades or even the person. And lets be honest here, if members of the forum are stating that a person is doing illegal practices to vehicles prior to sale then they have the right to defend themselves, you would demand that right if it were you, well i would anyway. We as a forum need to look at things, good and bad objectively, we are not in a court, and sometimes things posted online can be taken further so we also have to be accurate and be able to prove what was alleged. Now please don't think i'm a supporter of lexuschap/adam, i just think that we should be fair and give him an opportunity to reply. Whether or not you believe in what the replies are they do have to right to answer. Just being devils advocate, sorry

  3. Clunkfish. This guy is an out and out criminal. To alter the mileage on cars is a criminal offence this is just one thing that has been identified he does on a number of occasions but he and others like it get away with it because our police cant be bothered to do anything about it, the same is also true of trading standards. Even Ebay cant be bothered to do anything about him but one day as always is the case he will over step the mark and we will be paying for him to stay in one of HM Holiday camps and no doubt have to pay out to look after the wife and kids as well. He trades under various different names and nearly all his sales take place off ebay so no one can give him Neg feedback. You were lucky there are plenty that were not. Very noticeable how he has gone very quiet today after yesterdays bluster. Mike

  5. I would just like to mention Lexus in Stoke. I only went in to change the battery in my key fob. They could not do enough for me. Made me coffee, said go and have a look around the cars they had to sell. Came out to me on their forecourt to tell me they had finished putting the new battery in, I know they cost a mint to use, but all the same it was very pleasant. Not used to this from dealers. I was speaking to a guy there with his LS460 just in for a service. No change out of £750. He said he wished he had kept his old 400. Just thought I would share this with everyone. Tom.

  10. Hi Rich Sorry you got a poor welcome but the individual responsible as only been here five minutes so don't judge us all by him There are answers to most of your queries in the archives so if you enter the subject in the search box whatever pertaining to that subject will show up. I can tell you that the A/C clock display is a common fault and can be fixed but you need to read the subject up in the archives. As to the phone I was not aware the 95 had controls on the steering wheel for any function so that one as me bemused.

  11. "I think I remember this guy"? Is that it? And a reasonable response to a dodgy ad is to beat someone up? I can't believe what I'm reading. Say what you think to be true, let geezer have his right of reply, if you disagree then say so and move on. This is more like a public character assassination than grown-ups having a chat, and most of it is based on second- or third-hand experiences. How'd you like people to start rubbishing your character with a load of "I think I remember this guy" stuff? I imagine I'm going to get serious flak for standing up for someone for whom few of you have any respect, but it is the decent thing to do because my dealings with Lexuschap were positive. And at least I actually met him and did business with him!

  12. Chaps, I am very uncomfortable about all this and I think you should be too. It's a forum, not a court of law, and the use of words like "crook" is not helpful. By all means express your views but bear in mind that there are nearly always two sides to every disagreement. I would very much like to hear both sides, but it's all in danger of degenerating into a slanging match which will help no one. The ultimate goal is to help current and prospective LS owners decide where to put their money, and the best way to do that is by shining light on the points raised rather than heaping abuse on the people making them!! And in answer to another question, you will not find my feedback on eBay because it was not an eBay deal. I am prepared to say here that the person I dealt with was polite, straightforward, friendly and helpful. He did not try to hide the couple of blemishes the car had (indeed, he pointed them out to me) and when I took it Bristol Lexus for a check-up they gave it a clean bill of health. 1998 LS400, 106K miles, everything working, sat nav display, wooden wheel, gold badges, black with beige interior, £2K and it is without question the finest motor I have ever driven. The only thing that comes close for quality is my old Honda VFR750, also a legend in its own lifetime :)

  13. Tom, I just purchased my IS250 SE-L from Lexus Stoke and I must say the service I received at the handover was very good. We went out to look at the car and they had another tea already waiting for me by the time we came back in.

  15. I assume if you use this it means you cannot get the normal CD holder in if you use this system I use a Maplins £12.99 cassette adaptor with my MP3 plugged in. Cassette Adpator works well, and sounds as good as one of these devices, as the metal head in the adaptor meets the metal head in the cassette player, so the bass and the treble all sounds fine and dandy. I am fussy about sound quality, and must say I thought 12 quid a better buy. I did try a Sony adaptor and it was rubbish, sounded like someone stirring eggshells in the head unit. It also means I can drag along 6 CD's for ultimate late night audio experience, or when the MP3 juice goes and I left the power cable at home.
