  5. Thanks to Phil "The Acre" I poodled down in the sunshine to Brighton/Hove, to Grove Motors, a place you have to see to believe, was met by Phil in his lovely LS 400, left mine behind for the ex Lexus engineer to work his magic while Phil and I went off to find a coffee house the long way round of course, but who cares when your in such a beautiful comfortable car, good chat on all things Lexus and an hour later we were back at Grove Garage Tele 01273 773055 car was all done 4" section cut out and a new section welded in and we are back to near silent motoring. The price £45. No one can grumble at that. Once again the power of The LOC strikes again. Cheers Phil "The Acre". Mike

  8. 250 definitely but it wont return the mileage you are looking for - kit is all there on the SE-L model It depends what you want from the car ... comfort from a car that wont get lost in the sea of BMW or Mercs in a car park these days. The 250 is something different. Low miler with a service history.....- I myself would look for a car with average mileage for the year as it shows its been driven and not pootled around in back and forward on a school run or shopping run for its life as I don't think that can do a car like this any good but that's just my opinion. High milers on these should not worry you but there are obvious wear and tear issues as with all cars. Parts for these are not too expensive if you are willing to do the work yourself. Most work can be done by any owner willing to get their hands a bit dirty/oily- if you are going to rely on dealer then you will need a big wallet.

  9. Take a look at this video...think it will show you what you are after. Jump forward to around 7 minutes for the mirrors. But the whole vid is very informative.

  10. Hi Tahir, Sorry for the delay, yesterday morning took longer than I thought :( I've read this thread very carefully and the problems I had are not the same as you have, although I did have the Scorpion alarm and it worked very well for 15 years. I, habitually, had to leave my LS 400 in airport car parks for extended periods and suffered flat batteries as a result. The first 2 times it happened I called out the Dutch equivalent of the AA/RAC and, after a lot of trouble, they managed to get the car going. The real problem was the fact that the power for the fuel pump is routed through the alarm (that may be why you can turn yours over but it won't fire up). I decided that all this hassle was unacceptable and there had to be an easier way to reset everything after a flat battery. After a lot of experimentation, this is the solution I came up with........... I realised that what the alarm wanted, was to be put back into the situation it was in before the battery became flat. In my case this was: all doors, bonnet and boot closed, and locked using the key fob. Finding the battery flat, I had to manually unlock the door.......this messed up the alarm logic. So, I bought one of those portable emergency start batteries and left it in the boot. I made up two leads of thin wire (each about 3m long) with mini crocodile clips on the ends. When I found the battery flat, I opened the car using the ignition key. After lifting the bonnet, I attached the two thin leads to the battery terminals then closed all the doors, boot, and bonnet - leaving the thin wires hanging out the front I attached the other ends of the thin wires to the emergency start battery and, with a bit of power restored, could now lock the car using the key fob. The car was now in the situation that I had left it!!!! I opened the door using the fob, lifted the bonnet, disconnected the thin wires and, using PROPER JUMP LEADS, started the car. I had to do this quite a few times during the time I had the car, and it never failed. It does seem, however, that your problem may be more alarm oriented rather than battery. Before spending a lot of time on this, it might be an idea to connect the alarm again and give my method a try.

  12. Is the key definitely a master not a valet as the latter will not operate the lock, try your key in the glove box lock if it works that the key is the corect type.

  15. Lucky you, I had to shell out £1.30 for a number plate bulb to get mine through MOT last week, a disgrace having to spend that much on a 14 year old car, I say. But someone here in office just had to spend £300 to get their mere 8 year old Golf through MOT, so maybe my bulb issue not so bad!?!?!?!?!?!

  16. I have a couple of friends who live permanently in France and they don't carry any of this equipment the French government say we have to carry and they know many French people who don't carry the stuff as well. We are clobbered because as soon as they see the number plate they are almost certainly going to be able to give us a ticket and get a few Euros. The common market working in a balanced and fair way for all member states. Mike

  17. I have finally got an ls400 98R and she is beautiful. I have had is200's and a new is220 but this is somthing else. Now we do have problems. Disk changer is caput. Radio doesn't recieve signal from aerial. It needs mopping and the alloys are a little less than graceful but the engine is silky smooth and has only done 117k with full service history. She is good!

  18. Try these for cover ADAC http://www.adac.de/mitgliedschaft/adac_membership/default.aspx They will recover you and your passengers in ANY car from ANY European country to a garage of your choice For example car breaks down in south of Spain they recover your car back to home in UK and put you on a flight to meet your car at the other side http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1133193 The beauty about ADAC is that you are insured in ANY car (like German insurance) and if you break down in UK they pay for AA to come and get you !!! Also I remember before I knew about ADAC I used AA for European breakdown cover and they said that that cover didn't cover me for every day driving in UK as the UK is not mainland Europe !!!! That cost me £257 for a full year Anywayyyyyyyy..... Use ADAC and buy for you and a partner and it will cost you about £90 all that they ask you is that when in England if you don't have to use them then please don't as they get ripped off by AA !!! (Exact words when I rang them to order over the phone) I had to use them in Germany, It is basically a repatriation company and to be fair to them they got me to where I needed to be so I am really happy with their service
