  2. Check out this advert on the bay. http://bit.ly/1mIMVbj I always keep an eye on the LS's for sale as I would really like one knowing how fantastic they are. But is this really what people that don't know about them think? Is this their opinion? What do people say about your LS? I'd love a black MkIII With DHP pack.

  3. Having just taken delivery of my new IS300h I am a little worried about the gearbox. At all speeds it is quiet and smooth and there is none of the whine or mooing that the reviews speak of. Is something wrong with it? Does anyone else have this problem?

  9. Hi matt-c Sorry about the confusion...I haven't involved my insurance company because I chose to have the screen replaced even though it wasn't cracked or in any other way defective other than having a lot of pock marks which made driving when sun in your face extremely difficult... I shouldn't have even mentioned it! Secondly.. Re show room standard , I have had this LS430 for about 7 yrs and it's now 10 yrs old. I wish to have it refurbished so that it could see me out! I am thinking of spending a few quid ( at most £5k ) in doing this rather than replacing it.... Thanks

  10. You're right, it doesn't unduly whine and is a nice place to be. Unfortunately, the pro German automobile journalists (that's everyone including Evo, AutoCar, Auto Express et al have the car for an hour or so and rag the backside off the car and then complain it whines and isn't as dynamic as a BMW 3 series. They fail, all the time, to consider the extras Lexus has, the customer service, lower running costs and general smoothness and quietness of living with it. I sometimes wonder what chuffing planet they're on!

  16. Yep buy my GS lol.... On a serious note and personal expierience ... I've regretted going from a LS to a GS.. They are nice cars etc etcbut I personally prefer the LS hence the reason I'm on the look out to return to the LS fold ASAP :) Your best to test drive car.... My biggest gripe with GS is comfort.... I get a numb bum with a average drive but LS I could drive for hours with no complaints

  18. Lexus really are no different to most Toyota's when it comes to changing the glass. LS's are a pig to do, usually, but so are old Carina's and Camry's. IS200's are no harder than a Yaris. and the IS250's aren't too dissimilar from doing the according age Avensis. BTW, AG won't have fitted a new sensor. It will be your original sensor, fitted to the new glass. We, the glass replacement industry, rarely ever fit new sensors, just as we don't fit new interior mirrors; the sensor simply unhooks/unclips from the screen, as does the mirror, and we fit it right back when the new screen is in. If it's not working there are three likely reasons; 1) it's unplugged. 2) the ignition was turned on while the sensor was either unplugged or not attached the glass 3) the gel pad that sits between the sensor and the glass wasn't replaced/refitted, or was refitted incorrectly. Delving into each of the above; 1) there's rarely ever a reason to unplug a sensor. On most cars it can be left hanging from it's sub-loom for the duration of the replacement. There are some cars that you need to disconnect it, but the LS isn't one of them 2) Some cars, usually Mercs, but also some others, will do a fault check when the ignition is turned on. If the sensor is unplugged, or plugged in but not attached to the screen, the ECU assumes there is a problem and "turns it off". The sensor will then not work again until the manufacturer has plugged their software into the ECU and reset it. Again, this isn't common with Lexus', but it can happen 3) the most likely cause - because I see it all the time - is the gel pad between the sensor and the glass either wasn't put back, or was damaged (they can tear) and wasn't renewed. Good fitters will carry spares of this type of thing - I myself have a box full of varying sizes and shapes, for different makes and models. In the case of the LS, the gel pad is a small rectangular piece of self adhesive clear gel, that you simply peel off the screen and put on the new one. Sometimes they come off attached to the sensor, sometimes they don't. He may well have missed this during fitting (although it's no excuse, as a) the sensor should be checked both prior and after replacement, and B) he should know to make sure the gel pad is present when refitting the sensor). On some models the gel pad isn't reusable, like it is on the LS and many other Lexus/Toyota models, and the gel is applied from a syringe in liquid form, which then needs to be cured before it can be fitted. Off the top of my head, I can't picture the LS sensor bracket, so I won't tell you how to remove it. It's probably really simple, but I haven't done one in a year or so so I can't visualise it. If you can look at it and work it out, you can take the sensor off the glass and see if the gel pad is present. If not, it needs a new one. If it is, then the other scenario's might be the culprit.

  19. Quick update almost a year later and the hids are still going strong Have had them in 3 different cars and without any issue s whatsoever. so I guess you do always get what you pay for . The hids4u ballasts take about 3 Seconds or less to get up 2 temperature with no flickering or shorts ;)

  20. Stress cracks can happen for a number of reasons. Curve not matching the body is one, but usually the least likely, because the glass is placed onto glue between the body and glass. The glue is not a liquid, but it's not solid either (obviously until it dries). It's a polyurethane type bead. Because of it's consistency, you can have it sit flatter in parts than others, negating the difference in curvature etc. Unless the glass is viciously distorted, so much so that it simply does not fit. Other causes are faulty glass (weak point that can crack, or what's called a "shell" which is like a stone chip, but in the edge of the glass - which can crack with vibration and twist from the chassis moving while driving). Can also happen from pressure against the glass, such as a scuttle being put back too tightly - obviously this depends on the car; I've seen it happen a bunch of times to certain Mercs that have a plastic scuttle that sits against the screen, and is held in place with screws that pass through the scuttle to the bulkhead below the screen. Over tightening of the screws can, and does, crack the screen. Incorrect fitting can also crack screens - not enough glue, too much glue, incorrect position of the car during the placement (ideally, you want it on flat ground where all 4 wheels are at the same height. Gentle slopes aren't a problem, but having one, two, or three wheels on a kerb or uneven drive can allow the car to "sag" while the screen is out, then the new screen is bonded in it sets in that position - then you pull off the kerb or drive and drive it, and it can crack. Had this happen to me back in the early days, with a Ford Galaxy. Now I insist on moving the car if the position isn't ideal. Foreign bodies such as spacer blocks, or grit in the glue, can also crack it. Many cars use rubber spacer blocks under the glass and along the glue line to set the height of the screen, but I've seen them crack glass before too. Had a Volvo S40 in a few years ago that had stresscracked after fitting, only to find the fitter had put runner spacer blocks along the bottom of the screen, and because they weren't needed on that model, the screen had crcked against one. Likewise, NOT putting spacer blocks where there should be ones can also lead to cracking.

  21. Correct. I paid the excess to the windscreen company, and they handled the rest.
