  2. Hi everyone! I was driving Toyota corolla AE86 for the last 10 years. I sold the car recently and bought a Lexus IS200 so I decided to join the community. It is 2004, 100 000 km, not sport, leather seats, 17" wheels, navi version. My plan is to keep it stock for now except the diff because I use to drive a RWD car with LSD :) so it would probably be my first upgrade.

  3. Hi Ron , do you have the smart key system switched on ? in the hand book it suggests if leaving the car for a couple of weeks to turn it it off , as the system is constantly looking for the key ! , and may drain the battery ,

  4. for me it has to be the looks, the sound, the engine, reliability and more. you tell me of any one other 4 door cars from around the 2000 mark that looks as modern the lexus is200 1st gen looks? it is still to this day a very modern looking car with sleek designed lines. i love my newly swapped lexus is200 and i love the petrol station just as much!

  5. Are you sure that the brakes aren't binding slightly. My own RX400h had a similar problem and it was diagnosed as sticking sliding pins on the rear brake caliper----This would also explain why the hub was warm

  6. I like driving a thirsty lexus because I like emitting carbon dioxide. (the other gasses are an unfortunate by product) Well someone needs to feed the trees!

  7. Sorry, I meant to add let the parking brake off once the vehicle is in the air and the front wheels secure (safety).

  10. Chris - once again , thanks for sharing all that mechanical knowledge you have! Appreciate it. I will call lexus tomorrow to get a price. If it's too costly, I'll probably just buy the oil and filters and shop around for someone to do it for me. Thanks again.

  12. Two things (well three when you factor in the reliability thing) that made me want to pick up an IS was it's looks (always liked them from when I first remember them coming out) and the handling. Car might not be fast, but it handles extremely well for it's size and weight. So does the E46 BM mind, but I still prefer the IS over the E46... But I know exactly what the OP is getting at. If the IS was fast, the MPG and stupidly high tax would be overlooked, or if it was slow but got great MPG, it's performance would be overlooked. But to have poor performance AND poor economy - you just can't put it on paper as a good car! I still like mine though; nicest car I've ever owned. Still enjoy driving it, and it's never a chore. So still get's the thumbs up from me

  14. You can split the plastic thing with a flathead screwdriver that holds the rubber to pull it out, just buy a new rubber at Toyota, doesn´t cost much. Same principal on all Toyota/Lexus wagons. I made a image for you :outforcount:

  15. At over £5000.00 for a late 90's brand new Lexus transmission I wonder how many are sitting on the shelf?

  17. This is not average miles from a full tank, that was my best so far over 4 years of ownership. Used to do a lot of motorway driving with 460-480 miles / tank (Glasgow-Dover via A1 on a single tank 2 passengers inc. driver + full boot). On a daily basis with short trips I`m happy to get close to 400. No magic :) car is well looked after, only have K&N panel filter, full stainless steel cat back system and lowerd with TTE springs. There is a member here who managed to drive 520 from a full tank with a sportcross?? if I remember right?

  18. I've had 498 miles to a tank. Now you've set down a challenge! They do well in steady conditions, I reckon it takes 30 miles to fully warm up the drivetrain etc. What tyres are you on? Does anyone think "eco" tyres make any difference?

  19. Was doing a 265 miles trip last summer when I visited a friend in Europe and thought it would be good to record how the 300 does on fuel. Was just the car and me with a small bag traveling and road was 50-45-5% motorway - A roads - City driving. Didnt drive like a grandpa tried to keep to speed limits, also had the PWR switched on all the time for better respond when overtaking. Was a bit worried she wont make it to the petrol station I filled up before the trip but not just did she went over it as I stopped at a different fuel station closer to where I stay. Didnt fill the tank fully so dont know the exact mpg. Here is how she did, my best one so far out of a full tank: Managed to drive (on A roads) 86.5miles when the fuel indicator got to the first big mark

  20. It seems to be urban driving that kills mpg. After 6 months of ownership, my average is 34mpg and I get 420-450 miles till the light goes on. But I rarely drive in the town. Best is 36mpg, never had less than 31. I'm a fairly brisk driver but no speed freak. Remember it's the brake pedal that costs fuel, not the loud pedal (unless you hammer it). Just don't slow down for corners - no need to in an IS!

  21. I usually get just over 300 miles to a full tank and that is all town driving, its much better when I do long distances. I have an 02 IS200 Aero sport with only 46000 miles on it, I think manual would be the better option :) I'm having to sell mine as i now have a company car and we are saving for a house :( Gutted as i have always loved them and would love to keep it!
