  1. Hi and welcome to LOC. £200 is cheap for a cambelt, normally around £350 with tensioner and idler (you really must change these at the same time, seen a few brand new cambelts chewed up by old tensioner) £1800 is about top whack for one if these with your mileage, even a sport. I've seen some go for as low as £1000 with less mileage than yours. But so what? You're happy and you have a great car :) hope you enjoy the forum.

  2. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Sticking calipers seem to be a problem across the Lexus range of vehicles, the caliper pins tend to lose their chrome plating then corrosion sets in causing them eventually to seize in the guides. With the problem you have it may be possible to remove the piston, clean the bore and then fit new seals but a positive long term result is not guaranteed. To remove the piston it would probably be an idea to wedge the working one in with a suitable sized block of wood and then press the brake pedal to force the stuck piston out or if the caliper is off the car use compressed air to do the same. Several members including myself have bought kits and refurbished calipers from the company on the link below, if they have stock they will do an exchange or if not will refurbish your own unit. http://biggred.co.uk/

  3. Welcome to the club Chris, Another common problem is the windscreen leaking if it's been replaced, so check you footwell fuseboxes.

  4. So - I was checking the history of my car, and it was originally on a plate 66 GH... A bit of searching indicates it originally belonged to Sir Geoff Hurst!

  5. Dropped off the car today. It is going to be a long week until I collect it next Saturday! They will take before and after pics :) I also did a cold start up and in cabin clip so folks on here can see the difference. Stu

  9. Hey mate, A few things - I have the same spec as you. The MPG in mine is 28-32 always no matter how i drive..... I was also expecting about 45MPG hence the switch. Also - I took my car to get checked a week after i got it as i was sliding around roundabouts and on the country lanes!! Apparently the torque of the car and cheapo rear tyres are why it slides so much. But i agree on the good points. Great for overtaking and epic sound system.

  10. On the other hand..... Now that you've got the car, and unless you can get all of your money back, the cost to change could you buy you a lot of diesel. Once you're in this predicament, there is no easy answer. I know a few people on here get decent MPG from their 220d's, but I don't use the accelerator like an "on off" switch and had to be so patient and try so hard to get over 40 mpg with mine, so I can see why you're frustrated. 38ish MPG was about as good as it got under normal circumstances - a figure that IS250 Auto drivers can see without trying on a run.

  11. I can't understand the concept, that a Marque, like Lexus, feel they have to produce a car to 'rival' the likes of a BMW? doesn't the undoubtedly superior technology of a Lexus stand alone? -I don't feel there is any comparison,if there is,it's a bit odious,to say the least, only my opinion mind......

  12. Shock absorbers are shocking price for the MK2 IS and practically impossible to get on the aftermarket - you options are buy the originals from lexus, but euro car parts sell them and they work out at £150 each with discount. What kind of miles have you done? Surely shocks should be pretty long lasting on these?
