  1. This drives me crazy as well - almost as much as people who stop or park on the face of on coming traffic with their headlights on!! I can feel my blood boiling just thinking about it!

  2. Had LS400 for nearly 6 years now, and in last 4 months changed jobs so I end up driving the car every day, only 25 miles a day and only through countryside, and must say in all my years of driving, i have never felt this much joy being on the road. A little bit of radio 3 while silently wafting along the top of the Cotswolds, what more could one ask for. Then last week got to do a 360 mile motorway bash, and made me think how lucky to have a car that makes it seem like a holiday not work - made me feel a bit sorry for all those company car drivers in their low profile German Cortinas (aka BMW, Audi). And on that 360 miles never saw another LS which is unusual.

  3. To be honest you are going to get a biased opinion from IS owners. It really comes down to what is important to you fuel economy or owning an IS. I have an IS auto and it is not economical compared to its German rivials (owned BMW 3 series 4 & 6 pot engines and Mercedes 190 & C Class). An Audi A8 and IS are worlds apart. Its like comparing an IS & LS, 2 completely different cars aimed at different type of customer and different focus. I have a BMW 728i as well which is as old as my IS (both cars are 14 years old). You can't compare the 2 cars. My 7 is bigger, is more surefooted as in handles better than the IS which is saying something for such a big car and is a comfortable accomplished motorway crusier. It should be as it cost twice as much new than the IS and is more economical around town. However I love the IS, because of the way it looks, sounds when you put your foot down and the level of comfort and standard equipment. For a second car which is mainly used for school run and local trips and covers no more than 3000 miles a year, why would I want an ecobox which has no soul. Everytime I look at the IS it makes me smile and everytime I see one on the road I know I'm part of that club as I have one. The IS owes me nothing got it cheap, spent a few quid fixing a few common known problems and costs peanuts to insure. OK tax is expensive and I have to go to the pumps more frequently, so what. Its a heart or mind decision, owning an IS or fuel economy you want get both.

  4. I think in cases like the above,a lot depends on what the senior management of a particular store are like-the old adage, that the rot starts at the top, unfortunately,is all too prevelant, even today,I've got an extremely short fuse, when it comes to customer service-or the lack of, I've had similar experiences, like the above ones mentioned, if I get shirt shrift, or f####d about In the likes of B&Q, or wherever, not only do I kick -off,( in a civil manner) at the store, but make a point of taking names ,and telling the staff,I'm getting on their Facebook site later,to complain also, what is galling, though,is in certain stores, when you state this, you often get this ' I couldn't give a #### look,-I remember years ago, if a customer complained about you,as a staff member, chances were, your feet wouldn't touch the ground,on your way out to the labour exchange,to look for another job, signed, one grumpy old man........

  5. Got mine MOT'd today. MOT tester (mate) picked up a loose N/S rear wheel bearing which tightened easily enough to remove play. General underneath was fine with a lot less corrosion than pics above, but I'm sure next year will see some suspension bushes. All in all, not bad for an almost 15 year old car. Emissions were minimal too. There was a newish mazda in getting track rods ends and other bits and pieces fitted which he said was typical of newer cars. Modern gaiters etc seem to only last a year such is the quality of modern rubber. Pete

  7. I get around 22mpg around town in my auto, sometimes less. i knew this before buying. clearly stated in urban MPG figures. I do alot of town driving too. but my fuel bills arent drastically more than my Ford Focus 1.6 and am prepared to pay the little extra for a nice car. Granted i could of got a supermini ecobox but im too much of a petrol head and cars make me happy :)

  8. Check with the garage that did the cambelt. I bought mine and the dealer said it had been done. It hadn't 122,000 miles and no cambelt replacement! ?! I was lucky, I did it straight away, but it was another £650 to do it! These cars are becoming stupidly cheap and sellers are getting blasé about the information they give to sell them. A good write up might put an extra £250 on the asking price, but you can knock them down. Anyone here selling?

  9. the 1g-fe is a reliable unit. auto box suits the inline 6 very well. cambelt shear over time so a strict 60k interval is required.

  10. Well all I can say is after having the joy of an is200 in my life for the last week and a half the fuel consumption around town is fecking shocking. Just done the maths and I'm getting 20.27 mpg. I pray this rises on the motorway runs over the Christmas period cause if not she'll have to go :(

  12. Me too, every day. Best driving pleasure I've ever had. No car I've owned even comes close. Just wish I'd bought it earlier.
