  1. Thanks We never thought we'd be able to afford a Lexus in Australia (where we spent the last 11 years) and most were automatic transmission. Coming from quirky Saabs the chronograph speedo dials and offset hand brake don't phase us. Ours is a 2001 model not 2000, so even better. Have a few envious relies (relatives). We've driven Toyotas both here in the UK and in Australia so know all about the reliability, robustness and high mileage genes that the Lexus Inherited. We were looking at the top 3 for reliability, Honda, Toyota and Lexus. Did a lot of research on used vehicles before coming back to the UK and a decent Lexus IS200 like ours can be had for the price of the other two marques, so it was a no brainer really. We're now looking at the Sportcross and RX300 as our second car. Cheers Pete

  3. Hi Stuart, The first two fuel ups have been from just a mm or so above the R indicator to full tank and I've had 530 miles from both. The last one I fuelled up from a quarter tank. The range indicator showed exaclty 100 mi,es left in the tan, but the trip computer was sitting on499.4 miles. No kidding. I know this is all anecdotal, but its what the numbers are telling me. When I got the car on 29th sept the ave mpg was 32.4. 2000 miles later and its up to 37.8 per gallon. I'm travelling around 200 miles per week to work, from dundee to perth and can use 6th and cruise on occassion. I'll take a couple of pics of the readings and post them when I get home tonight and put them up over the weekend. I know there have been some horror stories about the 220D on here, but I've had nothing but good things to say about mine. I love the car and even though i've gone from an s class mercedes to the lexus 220d, i don't have any complaints. I love the car, but as always, do your own research as the things I say are only anecdotal. By the way, I've also installed a chip on the car, so whether this is making a difference or not is open to discussion. Good luck with your choice!

  6. I love seeing old threads brought back to life. Lol. The IS200 is a great car and you should be able to see a return of 350 miles from a full tank, to the fuel light, without out too much difficulty. I've been able to pass 500 miles on a tank while traveling to and around Scotland, but I drive quite consciously aware of my right foot. The link in my email signature will take you to a website called Fuelly. Here, I have been charting my miles travelled and fuel used since buying Zorro in January. My average MPG is 31.6MPG, but I think that is quite high compared to most other IS200 owners.

  9. I knew that the 'auto' setting on the fan controls the fan so that if it needs warming or cooling to get to the 'required' temperature, it adjusts the speed. I assumed that it would blindly put the fan on max until it got to the desired temperature, but I found out a couple of days ago that it doesn't increase the fan speed until the engine temperature has warmed up enough for it to be worth it. In other words, start from cold, with it on auto and the fan doesn't come on. Once the engine is starting to produce heat, the fan speed gradually increases to max until it gets to the requested temperature and then slows down to keep it at that temp. Awesome - just one more reason why I actually look forward to getting into my car in the mornings. :)

  11. Hi Anne, just wondering if you have checked the screen drains in the scuttle near the bonnet hinges, mine tend to block as I park near a hedge (now reverse up to it). Easy to check by pouring water and watching to see if it drains away freely. If blocked water from the screen is trying to penetrate the bulkhead into the footwell, which would explain only 1 side being wet? Doesn't need the screen to have been changed for this to happen, leaves will block the drains espically at this time of year. Hope you get sorted Tony

  13. Not sure on the second thing behind the dashboard, could be aircon needs refilling? I am possibly wrong. The engine turning over. I sometimes get this, though it's probably me. Sometimes when I turn the key, I think the engine has caught (it sounds and feels like the engine has caught) and I let go to realise that it hasn't and it dies, I do it again and it's fine. I use Forte Advanced Formula Gas Treatment to clean the engine and other parts twice yearly (£10 a bottle) and this seems to keep everything clean and working as it should. I use Asda fuel too, that shouldn't be the problem, or at least, not the main problem. I do notice a slight increase in MPG and general performance when using Esso, but not enough to justify the increase in cost. There may be other issues that other members have noticed and will be able to point you in the right direction. Hope this helps, if not. . . . Well. . . . umm. . nice cars, aren't they?

  14. hi neddie, still nothing bad to report and loving the car. after researching as much as i could and looking at the tech specs of as many boxes as i could find, i went for the racechip pro2 from germanyland. It's not cheap at 186gbp, but i was satisfied with the stats and the guarantee. i emailed a bloke called david for info and he was as up front as he could be. I asked for recommended settings but the box came set for power and economy. i noticed an instant surge in power and acceleration, but i won't insult anyones intelligence on here with estimates. I dont have access to a r/r, so this is all anecdotal. the factory settings are working great for me and i haven't tinkered with it as there is no doubt that setting it too high would damage the engine and i don't need that right now! Now that i am happy an d the car is performing well, i may twist it up a notch...mibbee...! Regarding economy, I bought the car with 61000 on it and a full history. The previous owner must've had a right foot like douglas badder's falsey because it was showing 32.4 average. after the chip its now on 37.0 exactly. i know that doesn't sound a lot, but i didn't undo the battery to reset the meter, so assuming it was averaging 32.4 over 61000 i have made a major improvement. iv'e done less than 2000 miles since sept 29 when i got it so looking at the ave of 37 it's made a hell of a difference. on a tank full costing 70.00 i'm getting 530 miles. that was from the last two tank fulls. i also add a cetane booster, but i can't say anything about an improvement as i have no frame of reference for this. on the whole, i am delighted with the car, the chip and the fuel economy. like i said this is all anecdotal and you should always do your own research and make your own decisions. nothing i've said above should be taken as a recommendation neddie. all i can say, hand on heart is that i've had nothing but good things to say about the car and the add ons. hope this helps matey. anything else i can help with just gimme a message.
