Hi all, glad to have found this forum, hope somebody can help.

I have an 02 is200, 50000 miles, full service history. I love the car to bits but about three weeks ago I noticed a noise when I applied the brakes. It sounds as if there were a ridge on the disc. A thumping dull thud sort of noise that is obviously in time with the wheel speed, it slows down as the car does. It seems to be coming from the passenger side front. I have had the pads changed and new tyres, £140 each, ouch, as the tracking was slightly out. Made no difference. There is nothing felt through the pedal or steering wheel and apart from this noise the car is absolutely rock steady, no pulling or judders, nothing. The noise is only there when braking, as soon as I take my foot off the pedal it goes away. I have had it thoroughly checked out by a very competent mechanic twice and he is stumped, he can find nothing wrong, no play in any components at all. National, who did the tyres, also did their steering and suspension checks and found nothing wrong. but the noise is still there and it's driving me daft.

Can anybody suggest anything?

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply Nick1881. I don't know to be honest, the mech checked out the steering geometry etc but I don't know the exact details. Are the slider pins part of the brakes, calipers? Is that a possible cause for this problem?

Thanks again.

Thanks E910, I read the thread though but I don't think it's he same problem. Mine doesn't make any noise over bumps or in normal driving, it's purely when braking and only when braking. I will get the pins checked out though. I think in the end I may have to give it to my local Lexus dealer.

Hi, I have the same problem with my IS200 Sport - had 3 mechanics check it out and they all agreed it's the caliper. I was advised to change discs, pads and calipers. As an interim measure had them cleaned as I was about to go on hols, they've lasted until now (5mths). I'm in the process of having them done.

Hope this helps!

Cheers teenybop, if you don't mind me asking how much would that cost, roughly?
