Wheel Nuts

Recommended Posts

When I bought my IS200, the wheels had been refurbed, so they look nice. But the wheel nuts let them down somewhat. I guess I could take them off and try and get them nice and clean, or perhaps just buy some new ones.

The OEM wheel nuts have a slightly conical shape to their base (as per my dodgy pic below), so I'm conscious of trying to get the right thing if I buy some new ones. I imagine Lexus would supply them, but I also imagine I could get generic wheel nuts cheaper off eBay or similar. Is there a specific spec for this type ? Or does the conical bit not really matter that much as long as I get the right thread type (M12 x 1.5, I think) ?

As an example of the sort of thing I mean, these nuts are being advertised on eBay as suitable for Lexus, and are M12x1.5 although don't seem to have the right seating. It does say for "aftermarket wheels" whereas mine are OEM :

However, these ones look a lot closer to what's on the car at the moment :

Am I right to think that the first nuts aren't right but the second ones are ?

Yes...still do the locking nuts - I just bought a full set of nuts (20) from Lexus (and yes - at just under 6 quid each!!!)

I was asked if I wanted any locking ones

I know they are a little expensive - but the quality is much better than the cheap stuff on eBay....
