I own a 1999 GS300. The remote on one of my key stopped working. The light does not turn on when I press any of the buttons even after I have replaced the Battery in the remote. I bought a blank key and had it cut. I also bought a used key/remote that belonged to another GS300. I had instruction to program the transponder for the used remote that I bought. The good news is I am able to open the door and start the engine with the new key after programming it. The bad news is, the new remote does not work. The light turns red when I press the buttons on the remote but nothing happens. I have been informed that the procedure for programming the transponder and the door control transmitter is different.

Is there anyone out there who can help me? Thank you much.

Hi Malissa,

not sure if this will work for the Mk2, but it works for the Mk1.

Remove the back of the remote and remove the Battery (if it's not fixed in the back casing). Sit in the car and hold the lock & unlock buttons at the same time for about 30 seconds - WITHOUT THE Battery FITTED.

Replace the Battery & casing, then press the lock, then unlock bottons seperately. This should have re-programmed it for you :winky:

Good luck,

Tony.

Thank you for the suggestion but it did not work for me. I was able to get the instruction to register the transmitter from another forum. According to the information I got from Samscars.com website, there is a slight error the the Lexus instruction. Does anyone know what the error is? Thanks.

===============

Although I had programmed the keys to start the cars, the buttons on the keys to lock and unlock the doors did not work. Realizing that this must be a separate procedure, I went back to the Alldata to search for more information. The Alldata procedure was an exact reprint of the 2001 Lexus ES300 service manual. The section was titled: "Wireless door lock control system." The procedure made you start with the key out of the ignition, the driver's door open, other doors closed, and the driver's door unlocked. Then the procedure stated to flip the driver's manual door lock from lock to unlock at five second intervals. Then it went on to have me open and close the driver's door, then cycle the driver's door lock again five times. Now it stated to put the key in the ignition and turn it from off to lock and then to remove the key. The procedure went on at nauseam to have me push this button on the remote, then that button, and so forth. Needless to say, when all was said and done . . . more was said than done. I must have tried this crazy procedure five times but the remote never worked. A call back to Alldata verified that the procedure was a photo copy of the exact Lexus service manual procedure. Fearing I would have to pay the dealer to program it, (not to mention a lengthy road trip to get their and back), I decided to check IATN (http://www.iatn.net).

For those of you that are unfamiliar, IATN is a worldwide database of automotive technicians that exchange information, training and even meet at conferences throughout the country. I went to the IATN web site and clicked on the Fix Database. The Fix Database is available to sponsoring members and allows you search through over 129,000 repair fix messages by make and model. I selected 2001 Lexus and typed in the search word "key." Within seconds I found the information I needed. A shop owner in Scottsdale Arizona had gone through the same problem trying to program a new transmitter key. Several Lexus technicians had replied that the service manual had an error and the actual procedure to program the keys was slightly different. I printed out the new procedure and it worked on both cars.

I had the Battery changed on my GS and the key was no longer connected with the car

so i had to put the in the ignition and turn it all the way to ignition without actually turning the last little bit to start the car

and leave it in there for 6 mins

then take it out

and put it back in again

and it worked

but that I guess would not reprogram the remote door locks from the button on the key, that might be something else altogether

You`ll also have to do that when re-setting the ECU by removing the two fuses method.

I seem to be having the same problem as Melissa - maybe it's because the instructions supplied with the Keys is wrong?

As with Melissa, had purchased spare keys, which I have had cut and have programmed the transponders successfully.

However am completely at a loss as to how to program the keyless entry and remote.

The procedure of:

0) Keep door open

1) Insert key

2) Lock/unlock 5 times

3) Close door

4) Lock/unlock 5 times

5) Insert Key

6) Turn ignition 1, 2, 3 or 5 times

7) Remove key

Does not seem to work on a GS300 Mk2.

Has anybody been able to get a method to reprogram the remote working on the GS300, or alternatively, does anyone know how to?

Any help in this would be greatly appreciated, otherwise my neighbours will really think I've lost it (what with opening closing doors and sitting in a car for hours)

you need a master key to program the vehicle for a new key. The procedures have been posted on LOC before - worth doing a search.
