Groupon currently have an offer of:

"Car air con systems can get a little TLC before the summer with this one-hour service. Technicians will first perform a pressure test, to detect leaks in the air con system. If none are detected the service will go ahead, featuring a recharge and anti-bacterial clean to help ensure drivers stay cool when out on the road. "

They are offering it at £54.99 reduced to £32.95

Has anyone used them, or have advice to offer ?

First of all this is not a re-gas it is a top up ,a re-gas is the evacuation of the existing gas and lubricant by vacuum and putting in new refrigerant gas and lubricant.

The practice of topping up the A/C with more gas is a professional job and the licenced operatives who do it for a living are a lot more proficient than some of the chain consumable suppliers who tend to have limited knowledge and expertise.

As long as the system is ok and as no leaks they can put in more gas until the pressure readout fits the car manufacturers reccomendations and you should be ok but if there are any faults in the system and there are numerous things that could go wrong, they are ill equipped to resolve them.

Personally I would always use a professional A/C engineer with a good reputation, to service my A/C.

Yes; check Yellow Pages (etc) for local Air-con man.

Whisper it softly-might do cash deal.....

It always worries me with these kwik fix places, it's OK topping it up but what about the pag oil, if this is insufficient there goes the lubrication for all those seals and then the problems begin.

A pressure test alone may not detect leaks over the long term the old gas needs to be removed the system, vacuumed, pressurised with nitrogen/dye mix then oressure tested and UV scanned, only then when it is confirmed the system is intact can the correct amount of fresh refridgerent/pag oil be put into the system

Personally wouldn't go anywhere near the likes of Kwik fit,formula1,in and out and the like

Thanks everyone for the advice. I am minded to go to a specialist. If so, what kind of price are we looking at, ie to have the gas topped up - ie there are no problems with the system, such as a leak?

I used ats. Good service good price did job right.

Which ATS did you use? I am not too far away from Denbighshire.

I used the Rhyl branch. It was last winter on offer £29.99

Thanks for the info.

I've used ATS for AC re-charge - fair price fair job.

Must say that also used them for Brakes, but think they were somewhat over the top on price for that, so next time will used local dealer.

Have sued both Stroud and Cirencester branch, both okay, so assume ones in Powys should be fine for AC

I'm guessing you mean "used" not "sued" otherwise I'll ask no further questions but avoid them :)

I used ATS.via a special offer with amazon local. They were OK. However, I had it done twice last year and last month had no air con. The system was obviously losing refrigerant so I asked my specialist ( a Porsche Indi) to change all accessible seals and regas. They have done this , I think 6 seals were changed, so hopefully should be Ok

Thanks everyone for the feedback. For the modest cost of using ATS, seems like it is a 'low risk' option. If not satisfied I will look for a local aircon specialist.
