How is the standard nav and 6 speaker audio system? Thanks

Posted

I've driven an IS Exec for the last couple of days. Nav seems fine, no different from any other Lexus system other than having to scroll through options with the rotary controller rather than using a touch screen or remote touch.

The 6 speaker audio system certainly seems weaker than the 8 speaker premium Nav option, but I didn't spend that much time listening to audio. There was a lack of low and mid range, or overpowering highs, when sitting in the front. Rather than alter using the EQ, I put the fader to 70% rear which improved things.

Hows the controller itself? I had one in the CT and it felt slightly plasticky compared to the RTI. Is the same controller used?

It probably is the same, but cannot confirm as I've never tried a CT with standard nav. I didn't consciously study the controller but I wasn't draw to the fact it is particularly plasticky. The biggest thing I found with it was the amount of movement and force needed to move it left/right/up/down and press in which seems excessive and slows down navigating around the menus etc.

I've had my Exec for a month now and used the Nav quite a bit. It's only 'failed' me once, and that in fairness was trying to find a tiny hamlet in Scotland without postcode info. I still found it though - the moral of the story being that however flash your satnav always carry a map....

Back to the Exec. I agree that there is a fair bit of twiddling and pressing involved in inputting a destination but I don't find the time and effort required much different to the touchscreen in my wife's Honda. And of course, not being a touchscreen, the Lexus screen stays nice and clear.

I've not tried the Premium system but I certainly don't feel short-changed.
