I parked our hybrid in the airport long stay for a fortnight knowing that the car would most likely run its own12v battery down. I therefore bought and charged a booster battery for it prior to my departure and left the battery in the car ready for our return... so that when i returned to the car after my holiday, i simply connected up the booster battery to the underbonnet jumper terminals and started up the cars computer which in turn started up the cars engine from the traction battery. The whole process took 2 minutes and was spectacularly undramatic and boringly simple.I just had to remember to unlock the car with the key in the lock rather than by pressing the button on the key fob.

Not to upset Wass in any way but, it's a lot of text that says absolutely nothing more than what we already know, ie, connect up a known good 12V source (be that a spare Battery, a set of jump leads with a 'donor' car, a jump start Battery pack or whatever) and start your car.

What SOME of us already know Herb.

I do get irritated when people ask for advice which can often be found right in their own glovebox or Tablet.

Oh I agree wholeheartedly John.

I like to help people if I can but I won't spoon-feed them. I expect them to have done some Googling themselves first and if they still haven't got the answer then fair enough, I'll be the first to help if I can.

My beef with that particular post from Wass is that he's saying that even some breakdown guys don't know how to jump start a hybrid, when in reality it's no different to jump starting any other car - you either know how to jump start or you don't.

I see where you are coming from Herbie.

I happen to agree with Wass that SOME breakdown guys do not know how to jump start a Hybrid.

Unless you tell me that I am wrong, the jump start process for the Hybrid car  is the same as for non-Hybrid EXCEPT that the donor car does not need its engine to be running as it is merely feeding the Hybrid`s 12v Battery which will then start the Hybrid engine via the Computer. The Donor car is NOT required to power up the Hybrid`s engine via its non existent stater motor. (if you get what I mean)

That's correct John.

Jump starting a hybrid is actually one step less than jumping a standard car, ie, the donor car's engine doesn't need to be running - so if you can jump start a standard car you can jump start a hybrid.

the only difference betwwen jumping a hybrid & a standard car is knowing where to connect up to,

with a standard car its easy as you can see the Battery the tab on the hybrid is hidden in the fusebox

That 'jump point' is only for convenience because a lot of the hybrid cars have the 12V Battery under the boot floor, which would be difficult to access with a full load in there, but it definitely isn't an 'absolutely must use this and you must never connect directly to the battery' sort of situation. It's perfectly acceptable to connect directly to the Battery if you want to.

All you're doing is supplementing a dodgy 12V source by piggy-backing a good 12V source onto it.

You are totally right! My point is that some folk are that incompetent or fashionably ignorant, call it what you will, that they would sooner sit in the dark and cold for hours waiting for a breakdown truck  to arrive and even then, being towed away because the technician cant be bothered to read the instructions either! They open the bonnet, dont see a Battery and then they suddenly dont know how to perform a jump start.Its cold , its dark and this is the last job of the day...I really cant be arsed... I'm going back to the yard anyway, I may as well go back with this lump of expensive stuff on the back on my wagon. It says nothing more than what you already know and what I already know but it also says a lot more than some folks and a sprinkling of so called professionals know.

Not sure if my wife is incompetent, fashionably ignorant or just couldn't give a kcuf, but if she phones the Lexus breakdown or RAC etc she would expect them to know what they are doing when they arrived, like any other trained professional without her giving them instructions.🤣

Help! my Lexus CT200 won't start, haven't taken it for a run for a long time, due to ill health. my son tried to give me a jump start with a 

Portable Car Jump Battery Starter, 1000A Peak 12800mAh

Jump Booster Auto Emergency Battery Power Pack for Up To 7.0L Gas And 5.5L Desel Engines, 12V Battery Charger with Type C USB Output 

Haven't got a clue what all what all this means. I only hope it wont do any damage to the car.

I cant open the boot to reach the traction Battery. The Battery is dead, what do i do to open the boot. Please help Thank you

One cannot charge the traction Battery, if it truly is flat you need the dealer or specialist to sort it for you.

If it's just the aux (12v) Battery that's flat use the mechanical blade key to open the door and then the bonnet to get to the jump start terminals.

Should all be detailed in your handbook.
