You will need replacement gaskets for the inlet manifold/plenum chamber, rear coolant bridge gaskets and EGR pipe.

It is a good 10 hour job so unless the starter motor fails leave alone.

The problem when the starter motor does fail is normally just the 2 copper contacts and solenoid plunger which can be bought for around 20.00 Euros.

If your mechanic takes 10 hours to replace your starter motor.................get a new mechanic!

I'm assuming you are speaking from experience?

The LS400 starter is very time consuming to replace, and the MK1 is apparently the worst of the lot.

If your mechanic can even find the starter on an LS400 within 5 minutes I'd be surprised, the reason I quoted 10 hours is because that's how long Lexus quote for the job.

How long did it take your mechanic?

The starter is in the "V" under the manifold, not very accessible, to put it mildly

perhaps hes busy changing his starter? day 2 out of 3

About the same when my local garage quoted 2 hours labour for my cam belt, took it in at 8.00am and finally collected it at noon the next, did honour the quote though.
