High Reving/tick Over

Hi guys my 2000 REG LS 400 that has been laid up for a while is reving to 1500- 2000 revs untill i put it into gear , stick it in neutral back up , park back up .

Any ideas

Did you have the Battery off to charge it during it lay up period?

Battery was if for a few months

Just wondering if the ECU is resetting after power was removed, drive it for a while to see if it relearns then drops the idle speed.

The idle speed will drop when put into drive as you have the drag/load of the torque convertor/transmission.

Is the idle speed correct when the engine has fully warmed up?
