Gs450H Or Rx400H?

Hi Guys, I am thinking of changing my beloved is220d SE-L for either a GS450H or RX400H.

I cant make my mind up, and my budget (£9000 ish) would only allow me to buy one with around 80,000 - 85,000 miles on the clock.

Is there anything I should be aware of about buying one of them with this sort of mileage?

when are the more expensive services?

When do the batteries need changing etc?

Pros and Cons for both please.

400h holds it's value better and has proved more reliable than the GS. Very different cars to drive so you really need to decide what you want. The GS is slightly more modern in terms of gadgets etc.

Why?

The RX400h is faster than the RX450h so its performance is nearer the GS. I'd imagine the primary reason for the comparison is budget - you cannot get a RX450h for £9k.

when are the more expensive services?

100k miles on the RX is expensive because of the need to replace the timing belt. The GS engine has a chain so doesn't have this milestone.

Boot space isn't great in the GS, that could be a factor in your decision.

GS 450h is far faster than any RX, and both RX have (more or less), same performance, but RX450h is a younger project.

That' s a reason why you can find RX400h at lower prices, and here in Italy SUVs keep better value in time, so a used GS has usually a better price compared to RX .

The GS seems to suffer from problems with the transmission. Most, if not all, seem to be related to a bearing on a fluid pump which is easily fixed for a few £££ if you are mechanically minded and have the time - hopefully instructions our members have provided will enable most people to find a mechanic to fix this issue however take it to a Lexus dealer and they will want thousands of pounds to replace the whole assembly.

The RX on the other hand doesn't really have any common faults, an issues tend to be isolated and could happen to any unlucky person with any vehicle. There have been some recalls to prevent issues occurring - so you should always check if these have been carried out.
