Hi guys is there a way of getting an RX400H to run its engine while sitting stationary ? We all know when you start this car the petrol engine wont fire up until deemed necessary by the hybrid system.

There is a Youtube video showing how to do this on a Peeeee~arse but that involves pushing the start button twice blah blah blah, and the RX starts off the key ?

Thanks in advance

Why do you want to? The whole point of the system is to save fuel - sitting there with the engine on is pointless.

If you sit with the ignition on (READY showing) and have the stereo on, for example, the engine will eventually kick in when it detects the12v Battery charge is dropping. Or if you have the heating set to a high temp and the engine is not hot enough to maintain that temp, then it will switch on ie. when needed.

Agree with Nelmo not sure why you'd want to but if you need to then just put air con/blower upto max and the engine will stay on when stationary :-)

The reason I wanted to know is im thinking about having the engine cleaned with the Terraclean system and it needs to be running for this process to take place.

Ahh fair enough....I would put the headlights on as well just to make absolutely certain that the engine remained on.Good luck with the terraclean

What if you just keep your foot on the gas whilst pressing the brake?

there are a few ways:

With it in Park, press the acc to start the engine, shift into Neutral and then release the pedals - the engine should keep running.

crank the heating up to full should keep it running for a while

and there is an inspection mode on the RX, similar to the Prius, but not sure of the procedure.
