Oem Cambelt Is 200 Year 2000

Recommended Posts

I have just bought a very clean IS 200 year 2000,with 108000 miles and partial service history.I have no record of a cambelt being fitted,i have just fitted all three auxiliary belts to stop a belt squeal ,i removed the top timing belt cover and the cambelt looked new, it was an SKF one.

My question is did Lexus fit SKF from new? if not I will know it has had a replacement.

P S

I thought I had cured the belt squeal as everything was quite for a few days, now it has come back,

could it be the water pump?

Hi it probably is the water pump and you could for peace of mind have the cam belt done at the same time too,and even if it has been changed you are not sure when,so makes sense changing it(better safe than sorry).

I don't and if you don't have a full service history for piece of mind just have it changed,if you want to run the risk of oh well its been changed therefore should be okay that's up to you,I know what I would do.

When I changed the three aux belts ,I removed the cambelt cover to have a look at the condition of the cambelt,it looked in very good condition no fraying or cracks,it was SKF with a UK phone number on it.My conclusion was it must have been changed, as Lexus would not fit a UK belt on new assembly. It is very easy to say ( if it was me I would change it ) the car is in good condition ,but not worth a lot.I have been quoted £ 305 for a new belt fitted this is a third of the price of the car,all I am trying to do is make an educated decision on information received.

PS

I have cured the squeaking, it was the power steering belt not the water pump belt,it just needed to be slightly tighter.

The choice is yours so up to you really,an educated decision would be if you don't know when it was changed have it changed(irregardless of what it looks like) good luck all the same.
