................. guess this is the modern day equivalent of a " barn find " ............... no point using it as an everyday car methinks, once out on the road it would devalue rapidly to about £1500 and one might well get all sorts of underused electrical gremlins emerging ........... . and the tyres likely won't be usable really and of course it's only on 15" wheels, brakes etc and the Mk1s are as we now know prone to irretrievable rust a little down the line.

Shame it's not for me, I do so like that Mk1 bodyshape ............ and as you say a Mk4 might well deserve this price.

I've already got one mothballed car and a second just doesn't do it for me ( my 1932 Triumph Southern Cross sports tourer ) ..... BUT buying, selling a car, even a classic, provided you're not a trader, does give you any capital appreciation free of CGT ( unless George Osborne has changed those rules too !! )

Why would anyone selling a quality vehicle want to show it parked in a multi story car park with poor illumination, not to mention in a space that is likely to result in damage from other car owners.

I hate m/s car parks and at all times try to avoid them. Too cramped and difficult to negotiate. Any person whose reversing skills are worse than mine may well cause damage and disappear to another parking spot without the least chance they will have been observed. Are they likely to leave their contact details on my windscreen - I think not!

ps Were they only 15 inches on the Mk 1? S'pose the first S Class "Mexican Hats" were only 15 inch, now I come to think of it.

Just bought myself a set of 16 inch Borbets on eBay for £160 so got wheels on the brain at moment.

Possibly from a deceased's estate ............. my 1994 Mk2 when I bought it at 8542 miles in Dec 2007 had lived a charmed life in Ascot and Kensington and had probably been parked up like this. There's not much on-street parking or affordable garaging in central London and I guess this might have been in this car park long term ........ might be wrong of course but my theory might stand-up !

it does say its stored in garage in london long term,i used to live in a block of flats which had underground parking we had two allocated spaces, it looked pretty similar, sometimes there is no alternative but to park in a place like that

Maybe private underground car park but as MOT'd and taxed (December 14) surely a few photo's taken of it on the road, by a Park, outside a house, could have been managed?

ps Jonathon clicked on your link and it froze my Computer - is it a relevant link?

If as described then why does it have to be a Mk4 to be worth £5k? It's true that the pictures do it no favours (but it does look mint). Can't be sure if it's grey or that very rare blue/grey colour with blue interior. The carpets look blue-ish. And rare zebra mats too! (What would I give for a set of those!)

And it's a Mk1: It may well have been registered in 1993 but it's certainly from a preceding model year.

Could be the garage of a "posh" apartment block - you'll see a Roller in one of the pictures.

Some would say (including me) that the Gen 1 was never bettered, and later versions attempted to be too "European". Too bad I don't have £5k to hand....

Its a great shame that such a rare car is being sold with such lousy pictures, that said what you can make out looks good. Mike

Fascinating to imagine why these low-mileage cars occur - I got my 1991 LS400 Mk1 through Autotrader, from Rykar, in Jan this year with only 21k on it. It seems that in Central London, in the 90's, there must have been a demand for these luxury cars, from embassies, and fly-away businessmen. Mine has been continuously taxed, but sometimes with only 500 miles between annual services, all by Park Lane garages. A case of "I'm visiting England briefly - get the car out in case I need it. . . . " And the car's lovely!
