Hi, I have just bought a 2007 IS220d with 124,000 on the clock, it runs really well and smoothly in all but 6th gear.

When doing 70mph in 5th, if I change up to 6th and accelerate, I get a vibration as if I was driving over cats eyes at speed or seamed concrete. Its at about 1.5k - 2k rpm and continues until I get to about 80mph where it seems to go away. You can hear it as well as feel it.

It almost feels as if the car is at too low revs and is struggling in that gear? but surely I should be able to use 6th at 70mph without a problem?

Thanks for any advice.

You got it....the car is at too low revs.

When i had a 220d I could only use 6th when doing more than 85mph Only ever used it in France.

Stick in 5th at 70/75mph and all will be fine.

When i have used 6th gear in germany it does make it a lovely, quiet and comfortable cruise at 90+ mph its just a shame its pretty useless in the uk

If you use cruise control for the long journey. Stick it in 6th at about 75 and it's fine.

I have the same problem but mine starting after 80ml/h !! I really don't know what to . Trying to find a trust garage in London! Anyone know a good garage? Thanks

Had the same problem myself with my previous is220d.

Anything below 85mph in 6th and the car would vibrant as though it was going to cut out. Only at 90mph + it felt usable, but as the speed limit here in the uk is 70mph your better off forgetting you have a 6th gear and use 5th.

Same here ahmedali44. My previous is220d would often slip out of gear, mostly in 2nd and 3rd.

What a dreadful gearbox. More suited to a lada than a lexus.
