Ls430 Gearbox Noise Normal?

Hi!

Just a quick question - I've noticed recently that my 2001 ls430 gearbox is fairly noisy. It seems to be working fine however so I was wondering how other peoples sound.

The noise is actually during idle rather than driving. With the windows down it makes a fair bit of noise when shifting between P and D. It sounds like it needs oiling or something to that effect. As I said it seems to be working fine so maybe a bit of noise is normal? I'd appreciate others experiences as I am not too familiar with automatic transmissions!

I can't say I've noticed it with mine, but I will try it today with the window down (if it ever stops raining!)

in the early 430s the coolant and transmission oil are prone to mixing due to the design of the radiator-oil cooler - i would check you fluid levels and/or get this properly checked by a garage.

Should not be any noise from anything regarding the transmission and certainly not when idling.I concur with Mark get it checked out as soon as possible.

Are you sure that the noise is coming from the gearbox?

Can you feel anything if you hold the shift lever whilst idling?

Whilst idling which gear is it in?

Have you checked fluid level?

I doubt that it is your gearbox unless you notice any noises/jerking on gearchanges or is it the normal fairly seamless change?
