2012 Rx450H Brake Disc And Pads Change

Recommended Posts

I've changed my discs and pads on my Lexus IS many times. We have a 2012 RX450h too and the discs and pads need changing and thinking to do this myself too. Since this is a hybrid, wondering if there is anything different on the brakes to keep in mind? Normally you would remove the caliper retaining bolts that hold the caliper to the caliper carrier and take off the pads, push the piston back up with the brake reservoir cap open. And as for the discs, once the caliper and the caliper carrier is removed it usually just comes straight off on the non hybrids.

Anyone have any extra tips for the RX450h?

Thanks

Take a look at this Youtube vid

- it's for a RX400h but you may pick up some useful tips. The guy who posted it seems like one of those really obsessive types who knows his stuff

good luck

Changing the pads/discs is fine, the brakes are the same as with a non-hybrid however only push the piston in just enough to allow it to fit over the new pads. If the gap is too much you can cause an error when you put your foot on the pedal, which can be cleared but is an added complication.

Changing the fluid/bleeding is more complicated and requires diagnostic equipment to do it properly as you need to activate the ABS pump.
