Windscreen Washer Warning

Blimey isn't it weird that Lexus think that your Washer bottle being low deserves a bright red triangle warning light and boing sound, yet low fuel is a hardly noticable amber light and no sound!

Priorities people?

Running out of petrol is inconvenient, running out of washer fluid and having poor forward vision is potentially dangerous :)

... it also potentially gives you a heart condition when the light comes on until you realise its just the water bottle low.

Has happened with me a few times and you initially get the sinking feeling until you realise theres no real issue.

Common sense seems to be an increasing rarity,doesn't take a lot to keep it topped up really,agree totally with Steve.

Many cars don't even have the warning though - it isn't a mandatory requirement

It was a very frustrating feature on the RX400h. Completely over the top warning which essentially made the LCD display on the dashboard useless. Even when you clear the warning to look at some other information the warning just comes back a few seconds later

I wonder if some of you guys have ever driven on a heavily salted wet motorway in freezing conditions but with no rain? I once drove (years ago) from Suffolk to Cheshire in such conditions in the dark (and my washer bottle was full when I started) - after I left the motorway I had to resort to using whatever liquid was available to clear the screen (I'll leave that to your imagination!!!!!).

A wet heavily salted road in the dark or bright sunlight is a nightmare and fully justifies a prominent warning for washer bottle level. After all - there's no gauge - but you can keep an eye on your fuel level!

If it is that annoying keep it topped up and you won't ever have to worry about the annoying warning light,there's a saying better to be safe than sorry lol

Yes! My Datsun Cherry had all drum brakes at least I could use my feet to help stop after the floor had rotted through :) Back on topic I was posh and used a fairy liquid bottle to squirt water on the screen.

Yeah my 'brakes' always assisted right hand turns, they pulled that badly!

Totally agree.

Lexus could do with using a different "chime" for warnings (as opposed to full on errors) - something with a slightly less aggressive attack transient. The current one is enough to make me jump out of my skin - not good when I'm concentrating on driving.

I think Lexus have also changed the frequency of warnings on more recent cars. Although I rarely encounter the warning (I top the bottle up regularly) it used to only warn me once (or perhaps twice) on a journey in my 57 plate car, but now in my 12 plate it's chiming away every few miles and more-or-less permanently hi-jacking the information display area for itself.

It would be far better if it warned just warn once when the condition occurred and then subsequently when the car was shifted in or out of Park.

No problem with a warning - very useful. But just a small warning light that comes on is fine or an initial message on the LCD when first starting. There is no point in completely taking over the LCD and continually warning me - when I'm driving there isn't much I can do about the washer level.

BTW heated seats in this weather, oh my lord what a luxury!
