Hi all.

Coming out of London last night and looking at my mpg - it was around 18 until I hit the motorway.... Such a difference to the previous car. I've read a few threads saying the 450h is not great on the economy front but I for one am pretty happy with it.

This time two months ago was getting the below on the town section.

You find people compare the 450h to a low powered manual transmission diesel which obviously isn't fair. Compared to a 4 litre automatic it does well, especially around town.

I get max of 40 on long run to Germany. Long run to Edinburgh,38 is typical.

Driving around locally the most I get is 30.

Acceptable for a 3.5 litre V6 automatic with Aircraft acceleration and first class cabin!

John

Old car was a 08 xkr, brought when 1 year old and lots of fun but doing 20k miles a year now so wanted something a little more comfortable and taller!! We purchased a Q3 last year for the "other half" and I really liked it's driving position.

I think its the driving position that is the secret to the success of 'SUV's. Once you've driven a car with a high position which is at just the right height to get in and out of, its very difficult to go back to a normal saloon that you have to bend down and duck your head to get into.

We first bought a Honda Stream 10 years ago (MPV) and my wife has refused to go back to a low car ever since. The fact that the RX/X5/Q3 cars accelerate like a jet also helps a lot :)

I get brim to brim 30mpg from a diesel VW Touareg 3.0 V6 R Line on urban roads driving steadily but not gently. On a rural run that can be near 40mpg.
