OK Guys , next question for a LS460 virgin!

Currenly i have 235/50 ZR18's all around.

I noticed the tyres, although new, are budget ones so i need to upgrade them at some stage next year..

So i thought why not update the wheels at the same time!

I see in other post posts 22 inch alloys will fit. Is this the recommendation to go or would the car be better suited to 19/20 or 21 inch alloys.

Would they be staggered and which size tyres and make would you recommend?.

Any good package (wheels/tyre) deals out there?

So many questions for one posting eh?

PS car is black so thought jet black alloys would better suite although the wife wants me to buy chrome ones as per my last Soarer. Problem with Chrome is they soon loose there bling/shine once the ice and salt comes our way!!! (and i have run out of drugs to sell.....just joking!!)

This all comes down to taste and your ride quality preferences

I own an LS430 and previously owned an LS400. I did upgrade my LS400 16" wheels for 18" wheels with no discernible deterioration in ride quality.

I have read on this forum of LS460 owners who have got cars riding on 19" wheels who have typically complained of the additional harshness in the ride and additional road noise with the bigger wheels.

My LS430 and LS400 didn't have staggered wheels / tyres so I cannot comment on whether your LS460 is fine with this

But I would suggest you think about the ride quality and road noise issues.

I have even read of some owners reverting back to 18" wheels / tyres after experiencing the larger sized wheels.

I'd have thought running 22s could be a major camber adjustment and as they say in the USA a "fender roll"

I've got a 460 on 19" wheels and I'm looking to change them to 18". I had a 400 for 15 years and got used to the wonderful ride.

The 460 on 19" rims, in my opinion, isn't as smooth as it could be. If I hadn't owned a 400, I'd have no complaints :)

I did the same, bigger wheels but it spoiled the ride, so I went back to the way it was designed! Falken tyres seem to get a good review on this forum.

I have used Falkens on my LS400 and LS430 for several years and always found them to be a good balance in terms of ride, comfort, road noise and durability not to mention great value when compared to the big names likes of Bridgestone, Pirelli, Dunlop and Michelin

As has been mentioned already, nowadays these cars are being shod with 19" wheels or bigger which will never do the ride any good.

One of my chauffeur friends recently 'downgraded' his car from 19" wheels to 17" wheels as he was having to replace tyres much more frequently plus his passengers hated the ride. 17" tyres are far cheaper and more durable in comparison so for him it's a 'win-win' situation

sorry silly question re audio....how can you stop the cd player screen going back to sat nav screen or is that just standard practise?

robbyg ..... I think the best answer to your Q on wheels and tyres is possibly, because zillions was spent by Lexus on designing the car, even down to the last minutiae re the wheels and tyres, that it might just be best to simply go with what was Original Equipment with the car !

I remember reading the original Ls400 Press Release documents put up on here recently, the fervour with which Lexus placed great emphasis on even the simplest design principles being around the wheels and tyres, aerodynamism etc.

I can't say I have ever seen an Lexus LS with wider / bigger wheels at the rear compared to the front - comes down to taste and what you like / don't like

Personally, I'd stick with wheels / tyres of equal size front and rear

The design details are astonishing, I had my steering wheel dismantled once and there is a block of metal on a little bracket, just to balance it!
