Just leaving the office and nothing happens with the remote or touching the door handles - can't get into the car, only 8 weeks old and 1000 miles, currently waiting for Lexus Assistance to arrive. Tempted to try the mechanical key and work out how to disable the alarm but then rather Lexus witnessed the problem.

Battery on the keyfob may be faulty.

Each fob has a built in emergency Battery behind the lexus key fob.

What you need to do is - open the car using the manual key. Hold the keyfob in front of the start button for 3 seconds and press the button, it will start up.

8 weeks old and 1000 miles, some one has bought the same colour and model and you have gone to the wrong one, look around the car park for yours :)

Seriously let us know what happens.

That did cross my mind as I have not yet got round to putting my private plate on the car and the number it has is not very memorable!!

As kindly suggested I did try the mechanical key and it opened the door but that was it, no alarm and no starting, AA arrived and diagnosed a flat Battery and started the car with a Battery pack and then traced the fault to the Battery earth terminal in the boot which had come off the Battery terminal so at least the fault makes sense. They replaced it and tightened the nut and all seems well.

Glad it is sorted and nothing serious. Not a great confidence builder though, I assume batteries are disconnected on the journey from Japan to the UK so somebody hasn't done a good prep once it arrived here.

Or go back to Lexus and get them to check the whole car over.

Damn, when you posted the other day (powercut thread) I very nearly said to check your Battery terminals, but then I got diverted onto something else.

Yes my power cut problem was obviously the start of the problem I guess the earth lead clamp had just been resting on the Battery terminal before finally falling off. At least the symptoms of the system rebooting and the climate system turning off are now understood. First time in all my motoring years i have had this fault. Thanks for all the help, great forum.

Well, just arrived back at the airport, unlock the car and jump in. Press the start button and nothing happens. No ignition, nothing at all ?. Had to use the metal key to open the boot and lo and behold the Battery terminals are loose !!. Give them a bit of a wiggle and we have lift off !. I head for the dealers as its only a couple of miles away and got thing tightened up, but was told that they had not seen this kind of fault before. Sorry to say, but Lexus needs to check out this forum for hints and tips on what's going wrong. A couple of hours later I'm of out again and noticed that when it's freezing cold, there is a fast ticking/cracking noise from the back window area which stops once the interior warms up, I'll need to keep my eye on that one.

Do these cars get shipped from Japan with the Battery disconnected? in which case it must be re-connected at the dock side to enable the car to be loaded on the transporter and then checked as it part of PDI which with the Battery now hidden away in the boot is perhaps why the UK Lexus dealer didn't bother the check.

Or does it arrive with the Battery connected and in my case the terminals were not tightened in the factory and not checked at PDI?

I don't know but I would image the Battery was disconnected for the trip across the ocean.

Given how tightly the cars are packed onto the ship and little time the stevedores have to get them on and off, I doubt the batteries are disconnected/reconnected.
