Intermittent Rear View Mirror Problem

My 2012 IS200d seems to have an intermittent problems with the dimmer function on the rear view mirror.

My old Avensis had this feature and it worked really well ... but on my IS, it seems to work occasionally... not sure yet if it works after a pot hole or because of someone in the next lane. It doesn't seem to work if someone is right behind me... turn it off and on and I just don't see the difference.

I can't be bothered with another 60mile round trip to dealer to again be told there is no issue (just don't seem to be interested once they took the sale :-( )... does anyone have experience of the same problem..?

I assume it is a connection problem in the mirror assembly... can it be disassembled, or is it a replacement part?
