My mrk 4 has been of the road for a good while, went to run it today , first time in six months at least .

when i put it into Gear it jumps like its about to fall out , would this be due to lack of use oil needs to warm up recirculation .

any ideas welcome it was fine when i parked it up.

It could well be due to lack of use, try selecting all the gears from park to low (1) and then back to park again slowly a few times just to get the ATF circulating around the transmission.

Did you have to jump start the car as this can upset the engine parameters?

Hi Steve

Could you kindly elaborate on how jump starting can upset the engine parameters? I've jump started my two LS400s with no noticeable detrimental effects. What precautions should I take in future? Have I just been lucky?

Many thanks

Pepe

Had Mk2 off road for 6 months, and no problems starting up and running, so you should not be having such problems. Never had my Mk4 parked up for more than 10 days, but does sound odd what is happening.

Giving the gearbox electronics monitors the situation every few milliseconds it may be grabbing and releasing the clutch when it should not.

Does it buck when you engage the gears but keep foot on brake so car not moving at all.

To me it sounds like a gearbox issue, electronics inside going wonky more than mechanics.

Might be worth talking to gearbox specialists to see what they say.

One other thought is the HT leads or plugs being an issue where a load on the engine produces timing/firing issues - never had it on Lexus, but had it on Vauxhall Omega in past - fine when not engaged, but lumpy as heck when gears engaged.

One other thought is condensation in the electrics may play havoc and when they dry out a bit may all settle down - but whether it is damp on the ECU(s) or the ignition system is a bit of a guess.
