Hi all.

I recently bought a 2014 Premium & I'm coming to the end of my first tank of fuel, the fuel guage is on the last sector & range says 30 miles, but no low fuel warning indication has appeared yet. Can anyone tell me at what point it appears?

Thanks

:innocent: seriously though... not sure about the ct200h (but i guess i'll find out soon when the wife picks up her new white f-sport on Monday) but on the is300h it's normally with about 35-45 miles left on the range.

you should see it very soon my light comes on at around 30 miles to go

There is a lot of discussion on this in the USA site. The warning light comes on when the range indicated gets close to zero BUT and here's the thing - it seems the reserve is very generous - there are reports that you can drive up to 100 miles before the reserve is used up and some have been driving with a spare fuel

tank just to see how far they can get on a tank. The consensus is that's not advisable to run it down to the dregs. Hope you enjoy your new CT as much as I do

Thanks guys, the light came on when I started the car this morning. A bit surprised when it did come on, the range was replaced with a refuel noticenotice, would have thought the range would still be displayed.

When you acknowledge the warning the range can be seen again. I would not bother rushing to refuel as you have another 10litres in the tank which is my findings. I wish it wasn't so early as you end up guessing a bit or filling up far more than you need to.

Hi pwood - how do you "acknowledge the warning" - not familiar with that ?

Thanks

Mines a 2014 Advance and when the low fuel notice comes up I just press the Disp button on the right hand side of my steering wheel after a few seconds and cycle through the modes until range one up again albeit once its at zero your in educated guesswork territory

Thanks - I'll look at that next time it's low.

I know, that this is a pretty old topic, bud as you can see on the gauge it says 1/1, 1/2 and R which is a reserve not E as empty.

Fuel tank have a capacity of 45litres, warning lights comes on when there is more than 10 litres left (aproximately something about 13 litres of fuel) so something about 1 hundred miles or 160 kilometrs are left on your range.

I'm filling it up when I reach R mark on gauge.

Its exactly 25 miles on my RX450h. Ive done 420 miles on a tank and the low fuel light came on so the RX can do 445 miles on one tank. BTW it doesn't take into account whats in the reserve - Lexus systems are super cautious!

Mine comes on with about 30 miles to go as well, but it is generally accepted that there is still enough petrol in the tank to do at least double that. Not that I have tested that theory. ;)

Regarding the US sites I think they are right, when the refuel light comes on it won't take anything like the quoted size of the tank, I think Lexus are just being overly cautious. Then again I have noticed my speedo is hopelessly wrong, I compared it to my new Tom Tom and Iphone navigation which were identical, in contrast the Lexus speedo over reads by ten percent, appalling accuracy. Still, helps with speeding tickets....

Overall I like the car enormously but it is a bit of a 'Curate's Egg'

As I spoke with Lexus service manager in my country, he said, that reason for that generous reserve is cooling off the fuel pump in the fuel tank. Pump is cooled down solely by fuel and if you are driving with almost empty tank, fuel is heated up to 60-70 degrees of centigrade so pump is much more hot.

So main goal is to prolong the life of fuel pump and other components.

It looks like this "issue" occurs only in Prius and CT200h. I'm not sure if other Lexus models are affected.

Yep thats spot on - actually the cruise range is calculated based on current MPG.

Travelled 340 miles to Gloucester and back - cruise range was showing 349 miles at first - when I got to Gloucester it was showing 223 miles. When I got back home it was still showing 60 miles! lol

It's a 45 litre tank, the light will come on with about 18 litres left. When mine says 0 on the cruise range, it only takes 33 litre to fill it up. So you have a Heathy amount of miles left when the light comes on. Along with about 10 in emergency when the cruise range reads zero

on my 2011 CT200 I never got greater than 425 cuising range indicated after filling up despite averaging 58mpg from new so on a 10 gallon tank should have been able to get ~550 or so miles before empty. When zero cruising range came round and fuel light on I never managed to get more than about 8 gallons in a fill. So for me when the car said flat empty I had around 2 gallons with maybe another 100 miles or so.I never risked it though LOL

Cruising range seems very low on these cars. Like I said, the cruise range goes down slower than the miles you drive. Eventually it works out about 500 miles for the CT

My old fashioned mind still tells me not to run a car to (almost) empty to avoid muck getting into the fuel system. Probably not as important with modern fuels and vehicles but old habits die hard!

Hi all,

I've recently bought a 2014 ct200h f sport and my fuel light came on at 25 miles. Hope this helps.
