Not much else i can change on the front. I can only assume that one of the new recon calipers is a dud, doesn't seem to be binding but it might be just a little?? Who knows!!!!

Well if the brake is binding, you would expect the disc/wheel to be hotter than the other side. Have you had the "run out" checked on the disc and hub?

No not yet. Wanted to swap the hub assembly over the Easter weekend but Fri/Sat was raining and Sun/Mon I had plans.

Hey. I am booked back into the garage that fitted my last set of new brakes a few weeks back. As I have mentioned these are the 3rd set that have warped after just 500 miles from new.

They are going to give the front suspension a thorough going over with test drive and also test the run out on both sides as I haven't done this, only NSF.

Hopefully they will find that the NSF has issues (somewhere) as that is where I hit a pothole.

I have a replacement hub assembly for the NSF and new disc also so if they don't find anything else wrong I will have them fit these just as you guys above have proven it worked for you.

Reluctant to fit the hub till after a professional has had a proper look as I had a new bearing and flange put in some time back which I will lose with the replacement hub.

Updates will come Weds (wish me luck).

Yeah, I was reluctant to change the whole assembly after already forking out for a new hub and bearing, but the original unit can always be put back on if turns out to be something else, hope it works out mate.

Well things are looking up, she flew through the MOT today!!

Still loads of judder although not enough for my friendly MOT tester to fail her.

Next stop lower front suspension arm bushes!!

i have new discs ready to fit but i didn't want to fit them until after my mechanic had checked my calipers, which are fine.

UPDATE

So my car went back into the garage that fitted my last set of brakes (these being my 3rd set in 2 years). This garage is an independent Toyota specialist and the owner has worked on IS200's since they came out in 1998.

He put a dial gauge on both discs. NSF was waaaaay out, and OSF was out a little.

He then put dial gauge on the hub flange and both sides were absolutely perfect.

He said he didn't have confidence in the brakes I was using as a lot of drilled/grooved discs are simply very cheap discs imported from china, then drilled in UK and sold on with markup. He is probably right.

So he put on a set of discs from the supplier he uses and has fitted to IS200's for years and years.

I explained I wasn't 100% happy with this solution as this will now be 4th set of discs to go on........so he offered to refund the cost of the discs if they do not hold up after wearing in.

As with before, new set of discs the car drives and brakes like a luxury car should.....if they warp again after 400 miles, I will be back to him for a refund and 2x hub carriers for him to swap over.

Why will you swap the hub carriers if the flanges have zero run out?

Agreed. This is why I haven't done it so far, though another member contributing to this thread has done it and cured the problem with the brakes.

This is the only reason I would consider it myself.

1st replacement set was Mintex (standard)

2nd replacement set was Mintex (drilled from eBay seller)

3rd replacement set was MTEC (drilled)

This latest set, I dont know, but I didnt go into it as he offered refund if they start warping again.

So the problem doesn't appear to be with the hubs or the calipers/brakes. It is worth changing the rubber brake hose on the n/s as apparently (according to my mechanic) the hose can perish inside restricting the fluid to the caliper which can cause the disc to warp. He reckons that he's seen this problem a few times before, and changed it on my car when we were trying to find the cause, but in my case this wasn't the problem, but for the sake of £30 it's worth doing.

That's an interesting point. I have goodridge braided hoses fitted so suspect it isnt that.

My turn to join in on this, my car has also developed throbbing underfoot when braking, and wobbly steering, it also pulls very slightly to the left and theres a higher build up of brake dust on the right front wheel

Im not even slightly mechanical there arent any reputable garages near me, i also painted the calipers 3 years ago and suspect this could be a factor, tho not entirely responsible, and the roads near me are shocking

Chris you seem to have sorted yours reasonably swiftly but others havent, i have little option than to get toyota to carry out the work

Do all dealers have the tool to measure run out (im not sure what that even means)

It won't be anything to do with painting your calipers.

The higher build up of dust suggests a sticking caliper - check to see if the disc is getting hot and or the caliper is binding on the disc -rotate the disc by had to check for binding. If it is sticking then change the caliper, and it may be that all your problems go away.

Measuring run out on both front wheels is a 1/2 hour job max, so shouldn't cost too much at the stealers. They should all have the guage. I've got one, £18 from amazon and very easy to do.

Just attach the magnetic base to the bottom of the shock absorber leg, place the tip of the guage 10mm from the outer edge of the brake disc and then rotate the disc to see the level of run out. If I remember, they should be no more then .035 of a mm (yes, mm) out of true to be good (but google that to confirm). Mine started to wobble (ironically) when I fitted new Lexus OEM discs - the rust on the hub where the disc mates with it was putting it over the tolerance. A good clean up later and it was fine.

Mine wasn't sorted swiftly, took 2 years and more new discs and money that I care to remember!

Changing the complete hub assembly did eventually sort mine out but yours may just be a sticking caliper as mentioned.

Well, my motor has just chewed through its 4th pair of brand new discs after just 400 miles AGAIN

Used replacement hub assembly on order, once I have made my final long drive to a wedding at the end of June a new set of discs will go on and the car and it will be for sale.

Toooooo much money wasted to this point :-(

Don't give up until you stick a s/h hub assembly on it, only one of the discs needs replacing! Gotta be worth a try.

Are you sure only the one disc needs replacing? I've done about 1000 miles on this last set now??

1000 miles is nothing on a new disc, assuming that only one disc needs replacing, then just change that one and save yourself fifty quid!

Yeah, it's got to be worth a go, mines been fine since changing the hub assembly and disc, must have done 7 or 8k since then so that must have been the problem.

Hi all, no surprises for guessing why i am on this thread now also!

I have a 2003 IS200 with 100k miles. Problems with the brakes started about 95k. So far I have replaced pads & discs 3 times, slider pins and carriers, all rubber boots, got re furbished Calipers but still the horrible judder after a few hundred miles :megaangry:

Next steps for me is to check run out on both discs and hub flanges and the brake line hose going to both side. To be honest, not much faith in my current mechanic so i might try elsewhere. So frustrating! Apart from this, the car is really good, 1 previous owner.

I have suspicion the re furbished Calipers might be the problem but could be wrong. Hope i dont have to go and get hub carrier assembly. Sounds like Chris was the only guy to sort this out? With Mike and Billy both still suffering.

I also got my wheels sandblasted and repainted. They now take a lot of weight to balance correctly, could also be the tires..but its just niggeling in the back of my mind that it could all be related.

So, i'm goona get the Calipers and Slider pins checked and see if there are issues. Also gonna check the run out on the hub and discs and the brake hoses. Anything else?

What about the control arms bushings, front and lowers arms themselves? Tie rods... ?

I did replace the rear stub axle bushings with ones from eBay but to be honest the front brake issue was there all along anyways. The ones from eBay are not so good, very stiff but thats another topic!
