Has any other lexus owners had an issue with these useless policies?When i bought my isf from hedge end in june i was 'SOLD' one of these by the dealer for £400.Guess what i kerbed one of the wheels in july and premia solutions the company lexus orgainised to do the claim repairs CANT repair my wheel because they cant match the paint!!You couldnt make it up.Thats £400 down the toilet.Ive complained to lexus uk who said tough its down to dealerships to sell these products and NOT there problem!!Wake up lexus and stop selling these rip off policiesSorry about the rant but be very careful if you are thinking of taking one out?

That's crap mate sorry to hear that ,I once bought a 250 and was sold the rubbish superguard treatment .i fell for that one ,400 quid too .

I don't buy any after sales crap now .i would give your dealer a good mouthful and tell them you want all four wheels done then.

The only thing I bought from them was the Gap insurance. Going by what you said if anything did happen it might be a battle with them.

I didn't know that Hedge End had another ISF on their books. I got mine from them in February and haven't noticed any others either there or on Autotrader. Must have missed it.

Have you spoken to Gary there...he organises all those policies whenever my wife or I have bought a car from them. He's usually pretty helpful...the least they could do is refund you the policy money.

Hi andy my isf wasn't advertised by them i had been waiting some time for a black one to be for sale when they had one for sale they got in touch with me.

I am hopeful for lexus to do the right thing and sort this out.

Also seems strange that the repair company can't match the paint colour, those smart repair companies can and they mix the paint in the back of their vans.

Thinking about this, I think legally you probably have a strong case for suing the Lexus dealer. The financial services industry got seriously nailed for selling what was pointless insurance. This sounds like the same. I would try giving the local trading standards office a call, see what they say.

I agree Jon...it does sound like it could be a mis-sold policy. Have you thought about contacting the media? I know that Auto Express have a weekly column where owners the have been messed about (usually by dealers) and it tends to get the issue sorted. I have never seen Lexus appear in there and seeing as they came top in their dealer satisfaction poll, don't think they would like the bad press.

Thanks for all the comments ive been in touch with lexus uk.Gary from hedge end has been in touch as a result.He says that premia solutions are sending down there "TOP" paint guy to fix my wheel!!

Ill update on this topic when its fixed??

I tried to get the paint code out of the Lexus dealer in Hatfield I bought my car from a couple of months back as kerbed one of the alloys. Like trying to get blood out of a stone...... I was orginally told that they didnt know the paint code as the wheels came straight from BBS. After telling them i was surprised that Lexus didnt know the specific colours of the products they sell I got this e mailed response:

I have received the following information from T.M.E.:-

Mentioned wheels are chrome painted with colour code 11GY39 and clear coated

afterwords

Paint Colour Code 11GY39 --> minimum layer thickness = 15 µm

Finishing layer Clear Coat --> minimum layer thickness = 20 µm

`µm` stands for `Micro Millie Meter`

Hope this info can make it possible for the dealer to repaint/repair the original wheel

Showed this to a well respected wheel refurbishment company in Crawley, West Sussex who advised that this was not a paint code...... Sort of gave up after this and will probably have all 4 completely refurbed and clear coated so that they match.

Will be interested to hear what the 'top' paint guy comes up with.

Also really surprised that Lexus UK think wheels are consumables.....

Paint bubbling and corrosion due to high brake dust temperature burning into the wheel is a known problem and Lexus Tunbridge Wells replaced the front wheels under warranty on a 2008 IS F I had 4 years ago. Dealers dont seem so keen to do it now though.

After a 2 second Google search the consensus is that the wheel colour code is 1E3, phantom Grey.

I guess as they only normally do top marquees ie Bentleys Lambos etc a Lexus is further down the food chain??I just hope my wheel is repaired before planet earth runs out of oil!!Now where is that e mail address for complaints to Auto Express??

Calm down lol. I had my wheel scratched when the car was taken off the truck. Lexus fixed it for free but it was the wrong colour. They did it a week later and now its the right colour. Now, if the guys do a good job, all 4 wheels on the car will look pretty much the same. If they do a bad one, well, youll get 2 a completely different colour to the originals.

Basically there is no paint code. Two different colours are mixed to get the colour you get out at the end. Very hard to match if not impossible. Both wheels on the drivers side were done. However, they were exactly the same as I had the dealer put all 4 wheels side by side to make sure they were all the same.

Oh and please dont use phantom grey! Its not the right colour. Sewell Lexus in the US sell it and its a close match but its not perfect.

And here is an email from Lexus UK regarding the wheel colour -

"Toyotaor Lexus have never issued colour codes for alloy wheels.

The wheels are produced by an independent manufacturer to Toyota.

The final colour can vary depending on what process has been applied at

the time of painting.

The wheel refurbishers TGB have used for many years were never able to

obtain the colour codes for the wheels and they had to invest a lot of

time and money to replicate the colour, however this has never been 100%

accurate and it was always recommended that all 4 wheels were

refurbished to ensure a match.

There is a possibility that a paint supplier or bodyshop may have a

spectrometer to analyse the colour and produce a colour code close (but

not exact) to your requirements."

My alloy wheel has at last been repaired 3 months after i kerbed it!The technician who repaired it made a brilliant job of it.His name is Steve Greenwood of Revive uk 07584583329 I recommend him.

picking up point mentioned above, if they hadn't covered the wheels then Financial Ombusdman would have surely awarded a claim against the broker for misselling the policy. These days you're quite well protected against this kind of nonsense

The wheels have a black layer, then a very thin silver overcoat, then a clear coat layer. The final colour depends on the thickness of the silver, and this is very easy to mess up. That's what I was told by thewheelspecialist in East Grinstead. It's the same issue for quite a lot of BMW wheels.

As far as the mis-selling, that's a very clear cut case, so keep records of any contact made to pass it on. The cost to the dealer of simply dealing with the investigation would be more than a complete set of brand new wheels, and if they find in your favour there would be a lot of refunds and a fine, so probably more than the cost of your car.
