Front Brake Dust

HI,

Ive had my IS 250 for 3 weeks now and Ive noticed there is a lot of brake dust build up on the front alloys (compared to any other car ive had). Is this a normal trait of this model? Its a used approved car with the fourth service and an MOT done the week before I picked the car up so there are no brake issues as far as I'm aware (ie the sticking caliper issue).

Also at low speed the front brakes do make some noise (the sort of noise you get when the car has stood in the rain for a while) but this car is so quiet Im not sure if im just noticing this more. At normal road or motorway speeds there is no noticable brake noise.

Thanks in advance for any comments

This is a feature of the IS250/220d model. In the US, there was a customer-service bulletin about this because so many people complained. As a result, lexus do offer a reduced dust brake pad for the front wheels.

Not all UK dealers know about these pads, so you may have to ask for them by part number: 04465–53030

I had noticed this as well on my new (to me) IS250, but I had put it down to the car being an Auto, so the brakes have to do a lot more work than on a Manual (where the engine braking is much greater). Also, one of the issues with banning asbestos from brake pads is that they all seem to shed much more dust now.

Is there any particular downside to the reduced dust brake pads? I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for them (especially as the Lexus alloy wheels don't seem to be particularly resistant to corrosion, and will be affected by brake dust), but if the braking performance is compromised in any way then I wouldn't want them.

How much are they?
