I have read many articles claiming that supermarket petrol and diesel, whilst cheaper, is inferior. The latest information is that diesel in particular is diluted with ethanol which (I am not a chemist!!!) has less energy and is hygroscopic?

In a nutshell, I have been sourcing the fuel for my Lexus and Land Cruiser elsewhere for some weeks now and both vehicles have shown better fuel consumption. I managed to get 32mpg from the LS on a run to the coast on Monday, about 200 miles round trip.

I have owned the Land Cruiser for seven and a half years and used to get around 30mpg but haven't for a long time. Again, recently 30mpg. Does this indicate a progressive 'watering down' of supermarket fuel?

I have kept my driving style as consistent as possible.

Mark.

When i was driving on the continent a few months ago the petrol was often with " E " and it didn't seem to make any difference performance wise ........ wouldn't know about consumption tho'
