Can anyone please tell me if it's possible to remove the automatic door locking function on my LS 400? It's only a matter of time before I lock my keys in my boot.

Thanks in advance

Hi

Can you be more specific, are you saying that when you exit the car with the ignition key the doors auto lock.

When I unlock mine (with the remote) and then open the boot with the key, the doors re-lock after a few seconds. I sometimes open a door to stop this - in case I put the keys in the boot by mistake and close it.

Having consulted the oracle and taken your post on board ,the following secquence occurs if the car is locked with remote and then unlocked with remote if the door is not opened within thirty seconds the lock reactuates .

Now it is possible according to the handbook to extend that thirty seconds but for how long I hav'nt been able to determine, according to the handbook you have to consult your Lexus dealer.

That means it will be an electronic jig with the remote and possibly the ignition sequence, more digging is required.

I think I'll just keep opening a door, or making sure I leave the key in the boot lock!

My Mk3, if i leave the car unattended ( ignition keys in my pocket ! ) for very long ( maybe a minute or two, not sure on this ) with the windows either open or closed, the car does indeed self lock.

I don't believe it is possible to disable this, even as a dealer customisation. It is there in case you accidentally press the unlock button (keys in your pocket) so you car won't remain unlocked.

I guess you car is working as it should, I'm not 100%. By opening the boot should it cancel the auto re-lock? If it should then maybe the boot sensor isn't working - does the boot open light come on on the dash when you open the boot?

My Land Cruiser does this too, i also open the door for a moment to disengage the function!!!

Correct, when I unlock the doors, after a while(not very long), the car locks itself whilst parked. I have once locked my keys in the boot, but fortunately I was at home, so was able to get the spare to open up again. I don't want this feature, i've never lost a car after forgetting to lock it yet.
