well this weekend, i have mostly been making most use of my new workshop facilities..

New Manifold

the following are a few pics of my new Facilities...what isnt shown is the metalsmiths workshops, and specialist tool store...... :)

Serious question for Mat ? Since the Tanks are on tracks an have no conventional steering has this had any bearing toward driving the drift car?.... my un-educated opinion would suggest that the 'tank' must drift at speed and you are trained to control this, if yes then what ellement of your training do you feel was the most important to 'overlap' control of your drift car?

Strange one....

well Tanks dont Drift as such, they can drift in the sense that they will wander on a corner, however this can only happen on smooth surfaces, like roads, however, 70+ tons doesnt "drift" easily, and its only a matter of nano seconds before grip woyuld be found again, mostly due to the fact that top speed isnt as high as you would expect..70kmh

however they slide well on ICE......but its a dangerouse situation to be in....NOTHING stops tanks easily

plus tanks are steered by levers, not a steering wheel.

infact the only common feel between the 2 is the feel of driving through your arse, as with racing cars, with tanks you "feel" what the tank is doing when off road, especially when closed down.

the real only way to understand this, is take a trip in a tank.....or any tracked vehicle, the "feel" is nothing like that of a car...they dont have geometry thats a fact....lol (well actually they do.....hmmm, but more a geometery of Hull design rather than adjustable parameters)

regarding my skills in the D Car, that has been learnt from several years Racing Rovers, in 216 GTI's

Understand my curiosity you 'are' trained to handle 70+ ton tanks.... with no steering..... you own a 600bhp IS200 with 'if' you put your foot down...no traction (rear ) and you are developing the 'drift car' with a desire to go sideways...allways, and your proving ground was with FWD Rover......Can i be your brother!!!!!...

before Lexus, i had Old VW beetles, infact 5 of them....

and since then, a Porsche 944 Turbo, and a Hartge Tuned BMW 325 (2.6) M-TEC, so ive had a few RWD cars

regarding the tanks....you dont really handle them, its more a case of pointing them, in the right direction :D

I understand. Very few people i think have had experiance of lateral drive, fwd and rwd.

Inspiration has struck me

Why not paint the IS Drifter in urban Army colours and incorporate a Turret on the roof, You know it makes sense

I have never seen a IS Tank Drifter - Be a World First :D

well today was the Drift cars first outing, and my first Practice event.

The car did exeptionally well.....very well infact, and by all accounts those few "Pro's" thats drove it found it well balanced, well set up, but lacking a little in power on the long sweeping drifts. As power would drop off just when needed

Managed to kill a set of rears within the first hour.....Bridgestones, However the new NanKangs(sp) lasted the rest of the day......
