Hi, I've got a 59 IS 220d. The fuel consumption seems to be getting gradually worse by the month. I'm only getting 27 to the gallon, when 4 month's ago I was getting around 33/35. I'm thinking of buying some redex or wynns treatment and wondered if this might help, or dose anyone have a better solution. Thanks all.

You could try Forte's Advance Formula Diesel Treatment, search on eBay. I believe they are used by Lexus (well they do the petrol derivative for my IS250). I would avoid Redex, not sure about Wynns.

If your mpg is dropping that sounds like your egr valve could be getting clogged up with carbon. There are some great links on this forum on how to clean it. Also worth getting some bg244 to put in with a full tank of fuel and then put in a small amount of archoil fuel treatment with every tank to keep grief at bay.

The above is some great advise Ive picked up on this forum and so far has given me trouble free motoring with the much maligned 220d.

Clean egr it will make difference u will b amazed treatment will not work if egr is really blocked ,it gets blocked due to local runs at least once a month take it on motorway.before I cleaned my egr was lacking power

Ahmedali44 has a good point: if you do town drive you need unleast once a month to hit the motorway. I do twice a month unleast coz my city driving! Use Miller additive coz cant put my hands on Archoil *no delivery in ROI* but happy with Miller. I wouldn't put Redex or Winns as juicestop mentioned also above/ just not sure.

bg244 and egr to cleaning and watch those lovely mpg numbers rise, that us Lexus owners care for so much :) I think there has been a fair few people on this forum and with that combo or one of the other has seen a smoother and more economical drive/result.

Hi again, thanks to all you guys for the imput regarding the fuel issue. Got another question regarding the beige leather interior in my motor. I'd love to know how to bring it back to its original lustre. All passenger seats are great but driver side just needs a lift as is always the case with ex rep cars. Thanks all.
