2006 Lexus 400h:

The key works in the lock and the handle pops when unlocked, but the cover won't open, intermittently, but most of the time. Lexus will only sell the complete unit at a cost of US$945 plus labor, whereas it looks like the only thing to replace is the lock mechanism which shows some injury to the plastic where the metal post moves to. Anybody got a lead on where to buy just the lock?

With the lock out, you can see the metal rod that should work the release. Should that be operable when the lock is removed?

try a different dealer. Looking at www.toyodiy.com there are definitely sub parts available, you don't need the whole unit.

55506-60010 for example has a description of LOCK ASSY, GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR and is available in 3 trim colours. I don't know if this is the piece you need, go to a dealer who will let you look at the exploded diagrams.

Not looked at the 400 lock but my Mk1 300 had the same issue with the glove box lid and all it needed was a small "tweak" of the loop catch at the top on the IP, the lock was working fine but the loop needed a slight alignment tweek.
