The hazard lights button on my 98 LS400 doesn't light up (when pushed in) as it used to. I'm guessing it's a light bulb that needs changing . Does anyone know how? Is it difficult? The hazard lights still flash as they're supposed to. Thank you for any light you can shine on this!

I haven't heard of many bulb failures of this kind - I think simplest way to resolve this would be to buy a used switch from the breakers and just swap over.

To remove the air vents you need to place to flat (ice cream lolly type) obects on each side of the air vents and then oull out - the switch is part of that assembly

Thank you. Do you know whether this is an MOT failure?

the hazard lights - well I definately know they check them - I think it is as its a safety item incase you breakdown

I stand corrected.

It will fail, as according to MOT web manual, the driver needs to see that they are operating or not - called a 'tell tale'. So the indicators may be flashing but if there is no cabin warning on a post 1986 car, then it fails.

The switch flashing is only one of the two ways of knowing that the hazard lights are on. The other one which is still operational is that the indicator arrows flash together. So if the requirement is that you have a "tell tale" from inside the cabin you certainly do.

This is copied from the DVLA MOT requirements web site.

Answer.

If your hazard warning switch is not working 100% then it will fail.

Hello Guys,

The hazard switch in my car doesn't light up or flash.

I didn't know the switch was supposed to flash until I read this thread.

I have had my LS for about 5 years now and it has never failed an MOT yet, it has been tested at a few different stations and no one has mentioned it.

I have had the same problem, as Mark said remove the air vent and remove the small bulb, the light comes on when you turn the main lights on, not very bright but enough to see where it is at night, The number for the bulb is--84999-10320,and Lexus sell them around £4 each.

Thought I'd ordered a new warning bulb through Am... and not sure if I incorrectly quoted a number or I left it for them to find, what I got was a "Bulb Cap" and not a bulb!

I've not taken the thing apart to examine but wondering if this bulb has this little rubber condom over it and if after 21 years its got brittle and dark and it may not be the bulb at fault, at all??

Anyone know if this is a 1.1v capless (at rear end) bulb similar to Merc bulbs with just two wires poking out, one on opposite sides, or is it in a cap of some sort ?

I have numerous small bulbs and don't want to waste another few quid if I've already got one which I can put the pink "protector" over?

Too lazy to take it apart in this dismal weather.

sorted - they sent me a photo and although looks similar to many bulbs, invariably they differ in some way, so ordered.

This bulb is a twist in, with a base cap with two prongs, one each side and suggests its 2volt.

Don't really know why it should need a bulb cap as surely the triangle is red plastic? All will be revealed when get time to do the job.
