Apple Ios 7.1 And Carplay

apple have today launched iOS 7.1 which includes their new CarPlay interface.

I haven't downloaded it yet but will be doing so shortly, before I take delivery of my new IS 300h Luxury with the Premium sat nav next week. Having read through the sat nav issues post I'm hoping that iOS 7.1 doesn't cause any issues with the operation of the cars infotainment system. My guess is that my car will have the latest version of the Lexus software, (I understand this is VC03101D), so fingers crossed.

I have an Iphone 5 so will let you know how I get on.

Non Nav IS's have the mirrorlink option, which is a collective driven by Sony I think, all devices below, but it is a similar system to CarPlay.

There is an video of it working on youtube but it is quite minimal, it only allows a map product, I think in the android phones it was only google maps, and you can't use your car music system while it is running mirrorlink

Toyota are one of the partners, I'd be surprised if it doesn't make its way to their premium brand, even if it is only an option.

I am hoping, as software updates are relatively easy to apply now , some of this functionality will filter through to current models e.g. Support for emails as well as text messages :)

I don't think CarPlay applies.

The update hasn't made any difference that I can tell.

Btw, it *seems* that the car now indicates the phone has full functionality (including text message display), but it still doesn't appear to work.

Can't say it bothers me!

The text message receiving sort of works on mine but it is very hit and miss as to when it decides to tell me I have a new message.

I find the same thing.

I must admit, currently I'm delighted because I'd never expected to have messaging at all, but now I have! But yes, notifications on a consistent basis would be a nice bonus!
