How Many Miles Are You Getting Out Of Your Tyres

Recommended Posts

Greetings all, I'm just wondering how many K's people are getting on average out of their tyres before changing? Mine have done about 16K, still seems plenty of tread but the grip certainly isn't what it used to be. They are Toyo Open Country All Terrain. Cheers

I'm about to change mine but not sure which ones to get. As you i was wondering how many miles should be done and the Pirelli Scorpion verde all season ones are getting good reports for high mileage

There are some recent and interesting threads on tyres... check them out.

I don't know about mileage - not really paying attention - but I have notice that my tyres tend to wear unevenly and more on the inside than the outside. I regularly have the tracking checked, but tyre specialist tells me that it is common to the RX.

Anyone experienced the same?

all terrains are a slighty harder compound and more open but deeper tread, for off road use and can last upto 50,000 miles, but you will compromise on grip, especially in the wet

normal road tyres will last fewer miles as they are a softer compound but due to a shallower tread, and closer tread pattern you get much better road manners and grip

our BMW used to go though a set of tyres every 12,000 miles, so anything has to be better than that

Changed the wheels and tyres when I bought my Mk1 for a set of Mk2 wheels and new tyres (Continental CrossContacts), changed them to winter tyres (Kuhmo Eurowinters) when they were about 3/4 worn and after approx 60K miles I have just replaced the 18" wheels with a set of 17" alloys with new winters (Nokian SUVW3).

In actual fact the summer Contis wore faster than the Winters, the Contis were fitted for about 30K miles and were 3/4 worn, the Kuhmo winters were fitted for approx 30K miles and are only about 1/2 worn, pretty amazing really for winters, and knocks into a cocked hat all the talk about winters wearing faster than summers!

When the summer comes around again (eventually, maybe) I shall get the 18" alloys refurbed (they are horrendously corroded, typical Lexus alloy rot) and fit a set of summers. The previous winters I had been using all year around with absolutely no detrimental effect noticable at all.

Ive got Dunlop SP Sport 270 on mine. My car is heavier than yours and I dont change tyres in the winter but currently Ive done 10k miles and have 5-6mm left all around. Fronts seem to be wearing quicker.

Reason for Pirelli Scorpion Verde having higher mileage rating is a harder compound and higher load rating.

Bought my RX300 back in august 2008 changed from 16" wheels up to the mk2 18" wheels, then the car was at 38,000 on the clock. Put a full set of Pirelli Scorpion Zero's on. At 42,955k took the car over to Tony over at Wheels in Motion, as it was suggested to have the geometry set up on the car properly to prolong the life of the tyres, due to the fact that Lexus's are set up for Japanese roads and not ours. At 81,546k miles replaced two tyres, and at 91,965k miles replaced the two others, that works out at 53,965 miles for two tyres, and 43,546k miles for the other two, now recently just upgraded to the RX400h and did a trade in, chap checked the tyres and at 114k the rears were at 5mm and fronts were at 6mm.

Have Dunlop SP270's on the RX400h at the minute but will be booking the car in with Tony at W.I.M again soon, then will replace the Dunlops with Pirelli Scorpion Zero's again.

I think I read that Tony has moved from WIM, got his own place or working for himself at another establishment.......better check before you go! :driving:

Are you getting the P Zero's in 104Y XL?

I would of thought they may give quite a harsh ride.

I'm thinking they're the 104Y's yes Steve, I'd think they may be a tad harsh in a lower profile, such as the 45's but I had 55's and very little road noise, it certainly stopped the boating which the 16" wheels and Toyo tyres gave me. For some unknown reason mind, the first set had a yellow scorpion on them, the second set didn't.
