Perhaps as insurance fraud is on the rise, they might be using credit checks to descriminate against people with a poor credit rating. Whatever the reason , it is not acceptable that they do not make it explict that such checks would be undertaken.

Hopefully, we have someone closer to the industry who could enlighten us. Would be good to have a definitive answer.

Hi guys

I used to work in insurance and I can tell you guys, even if you have 8 years no claims bonus, they still class it as 5 years, 5 years is max no claims bonus you can have.

Doesn't surprise me.

Like most things these days, it's all bull**** anyway.

All that matters is the bottom line, how they get there is immaterial.

What used to be a fairly reputable business is now just another money grubbing enterprise, and we all need to recognise it as such and treat it accordingly, i.e, shop around and haggle for the best value.

That does appear to be completely true.

I have just renewed my insurance and when they sent all the bumf through it showed I had 9 years NCD when in fact I had 11.

When I phoned them to point out the error I was told it made no difference what so ever!

Another thing that will make insurance expensive is, you guys will laugh at this, if your car is red, your insurance will price will increase, because red is a fast colour and attracts Thieves

I heard all this stuff about red cars years ago.

My own experience with red cars is that it is true about attractive. Out of the 17 cars I have had over 35 years (mainly company cars), it was only the red ones that people either crashed into me, or they got nicked. Even when I had high performance cars so long as not red, then never touched. And what is even odder with my red cars was that if anyone was going to crash into me, then it was always within the first two weeks of me having them from brand new

The only exception to my red experience was a I once had a fully specced 1.8 Cavalier White GLS (nice car but as sluggish as hell), it got nicked after 5 failed attempts at it, until it finally went. The cops said it was probably nicked to order for New Zealand or Cyprus.

So I avoid red cars, and never had a problem since.

Just got the renewal in for the wifes Dagenham Dustbin, Focus Estate 54 plate 2 litre £168 12 years claim free. I'm happy with that so wont bother searching for a few quid off it. Mike
